The Lower Depths is a cash only bar (as, surprisingly, are many places we visited in Boston so take note) but there’s an ATM inside & plenty more outside. The atmosphere is dark but inviting, with crazy art on the walls & 2 large boards that boast many, many unique & quirky beer choices. Our bartender was a doll & very personable (he was a Ben Affleck double but better looking !) & friendly to our group of Buffalonians. Specialties include all sorts of tater tot dishes with scrumptious toppings. Kenmore Tots, which are tater tots smothered in bacon, chipotle aioli & cheddar cheese. We ordered a tater tot dish that was huge & large enough for the 4 of us to have ample tastings. We also tried the jalapeno & cheddar covered foot – long hot dog which looked way longer than 12 inches & was char grilled, hanging way over the bun on both ends. The nachos we eyed at a nearby table looked huge & tasty Other winners we spied were the quesadilla burger. a grilled chicken sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich. This place is a winner especially notable for the friendly staff.

A super fun bar. It's in a pretty inconspicuous location, but is a great time and has great staff. Aline and Sam are awesome!!

My son, Joe and I came to Boston for a father and son weekend. Joe had asked some of his friends who live in Boston for some recommendations of places to visit and eat. The Lower Depths Tap Room was one that sounded very interesting because his friend said that you could get a great hotdog and beer there. As we approached The Lower Depths, I wasn't too sure because even though it was a nasty rainy day, the outside looked sad and I was also expecting to find more than 2 patrons in the place. We decided that since we were there and that it came highly recommended, the least we could do is give it a shot. After walking down several steps from street level, we entered and felt like hipsters. The walls had murals on them except for a few that were artsy or the ones behind the bar. We were greeted by a young bartender and decided to eat at the bar. Joe ordered the Boston Strangler which was a foot long on a special toasted bun with caramelized onions and mackin' cheese for $8. I ordered the Belgian which was also a foot long on a special toasted bun with garlic mayo & fries on it for $5. To quench our thirsts, joe ordered a Zep on the Jukebox beer by Kent Falls Brewery on tap for $7 while I had the White Rascal by Avery Brewing Co for $6. The dogs and beer were amazing and our bartender was very personable. If you are in the area of Fenway Park, then this is a MUST!

This is our go-to place before Red Sox games and this time, we hit it up afterwards instead. Delicious hot dogs, great beer selection, and reasonable (though rising) prices. They only take cash (but have an ATM) so be prepared. Enjoy!

Great beer selection and Findlay staff. This is a cash only bar but it's worth a visit for the selection.
