We'd been camping for several days in the Appalachians (traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway from Shenandoah National Park) before arriving in Asheville. There were signs in town leading to the Grove, so we thought we should check it out. Not knowing what to expect when we arrived there, it was just so fantastic!
Great view of the mountains from our room, which was spacious and very comfy! The restaurant on the "Sunset Terrace" was very nice, with a great view of the gardens, forest, city and mountains! The menu was impeccable and the seafood likewise! Service was good although somewhat conservative.
An absolute must if you're in the area!

The Grove Park Inn is as good as it gets. The 100 year old building, the mountain setting and the wonderful service is just outstanding. It is hard to say which time of year is best as all of them have their appeal. I particularly liked the Christmas holidays with the decorations and the roaring fires with a rocking chair right in front. I have been three times and it is not enough.

Room Tip: I prefer the old part of the hotel with the Craftsman furniture and fixtures.

We stayed here for a business retreat and room was not so good but everything else was wonderful. Room was rustic but needs to be updated to match rest of the place. Pillows awful, bathroom tiny and awkward. Room had very poor lighting ironing board needed to be replaced, along with the towels! Positives: food though pricey was very good, views are beautiful, atmosphere charming and rustic, spa is AMAZING! If you don't stay here at least visit the spa for the day! I think we'd stay again, the employees were great and that means a lot to us.

The Spa at the Grove Park Inn is the only reason I stay there. It's one of the best that I have been to in the US. I enjoyed the view from my room and the history of the hotel. The Horizons Restaurant should be avoided. There is nothing much to choose from on their menu. The staff is extremely unprofessional as well as the manager. I enjoyed the Sunset Terrace and feel that it's the only good restaurant there.

I have stayed at the Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa during all three of their "ownerships". Never disappointed. It is quiet, clean and comfortable. It is sometimes pricey, but specials and deals are offered often. The Spa is the best around!

We were leery of staying at the hotel because of a number of recent online guest reviews that had severely criticized various things about the hotel, especially given its price levels. I talked at some length with a reservationist on the phone before making our reservation, discussing some of the negative reviews; she could not have been more pleasant, patient and apologetic (to past guest who had had a bad experience). She emphasized the recently-completed renovations and the "takeover" by Omni Hotels in July. Our stay (which was only for two nights) was outstanding! We were stunned that anyone could have had the bad experiences that were described, even prior to the completion of the renovations. Admittedly, we stayed in the Vanderbilt Wing, which was (we understood) the most recently-renovated wing and generally had not received bad reviews. But virtually everything about our stay was terrific! The staff members we encountered seemed to be going out of their way to be polite and accommodating to everyone, not just us. We highly recommend the Grove Park Inn and would certainly stay there again.

Lunch on the Terrace at the Grove Park Inn couldn't have been much better. Great Bloody
Mary's, delicious roasted beet salad and very flavorful hamburger cooked the way one desires. The fries were marginal as they were cooked in duck fat and had what would be an acquired taste.
The vistas from the Terrace were amazing and in the fall would be spectacular.
