This was our first time at a bed and breakfast so i was a little nervous about it as we are really not great around people we don't know. But the moment we walked in the door we felt welcome. The charm of the home and our room was wonderful. The breakfast was AWESOME!! Frank and Ralph were so funny they put us at ease and made it easier to interact with the other guests. They gave us great info into the places we were thinking about going which was so nice. Ralphs gardens we so beautiful and peaceful that we found ourselves rushing back for the 5 to 6 hour where everyone got together in the garden for wine and food. we never laughed so hard. I would recommend whitgate inn for anyone but more so for the first timers. This could have been a really uncomfortable time for our first time. This really changed our minds. Thank you so much Frank and Ralph for giving us such a memorable time!

Room Tip: I don't know about the other rooms, but we had the robert frost room. It was so roomy and quite...

My husband and I just spent another great weekend at the Whitegate Inn. The service is friendly, the rooms spotless and beautifully appointed, and the location is right next to downtown Asheville. We can park the car for the weekend and walk wherever we need to go. Frank & Ralph make you feel very welcome, and the three-course breakfast alone is worth the drive. Ralph's greenhouse full of orchids is a hidden gem, and the grounds are a twisting labyrinth of rare and special plants, all jostling for sunlight in a verdant, thick carpet overhung by strange and wonderful trees. I recommend the Whitegate to anyone looking for a place that is truly out of the ordinary.

Room Tip: Any room you choose will be wonderful.

My wife and I ofent stop in Asheville on our way to Charleston, SC. This was the first time that we deviated from a hotel on I-26 to soak in the downtown Asheville area and to stay at WhiteGate. What a pleasent surprise! Even though we only staid one night, our stay couldn't have been more glorious. We plan on returning in the future and make this our stay of choice from now on.

Our June 10-11, 2012 stay at the Maya Angelou Suite in the Carriage House was like a 7th Heaven. At arrival, jovial Frank makes everyone feel so welcome, and is attentive to any special client dietary or other needs. Thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Frank and staff members while meeting other guests during afternoon wine and incredible edibles, and at the 3 course sumptuous breakfast. WOW! Unusual treatments, delicious and unique classic foods spectacularly presented in appropriate portions and served in a gorgeous formal dining room set with beautiful centerpieces, flowers, crystal candlesticks, china etc. Surrounding the large restored 1889 home is Ralph's award-winning garden with water features and many blooming plants and baskets; it is beyond belief, especially outstanding orchids in the greenhouse, and several chairs/nooks for a relaxing get-away along the garden path that circles the home. Entire staff provides courteous and professional attention in supplying luxurious accommodations in this historic home. So many lovely rooms/suites and off street parking. Enjoyed their location being close enough to walk downtown for shopping and dining. Looking forward to another opportunity to return!

Room Tip: Maya Angelou Suite has private entrance and patio with rocking chairs outside the door, which is sec...

Upon check-in, we were offered a glass of champagne while being given a tour of the house and amenities of our room. The charm of the building, our room and the gardens were outstanding. The location is perfect. The breakfasts were beyond belief - table setting beautiful and elegant with china, silver and candles. And the food was absolutely fabulous. Everyday a new fruit course, entree and dessert. The evening reception with wine and hors d'oevres was a great time to meet other guests. Best of all was the outstanding hospitality of Frank (what a showman he is) and Ralph and the rest of the staff. Cudos to the WhiteGate for all the hard work and thought that has gone into making this an exceptional B&B experience for my husband and I.

Room Tip: While the Main House is vintage and includes the dining room, the Carriage House a few steps away fr...

To put it simply: you will not for a moment regret your stay at the 1889 Whitegate Inn. My boyfriend and I chose the Whitegate for our first real getaway together, and it is - without a doubt or hyperbole - a superlative place to escape from the rest of the world with a special someone. The foyer, parlour, and sitting room are extremely comfortable and well-appointed yet not in the least stuffy. We stayed in the cottage which met our every expectation for a get-away (we particularly loved the big comfy bed and the fireplace). The staff prepared a picnic basket (one of several delightful services offered) for us, and we spent a blissful couple hours in the late afternoon in the stunning garden feeding each other grapes, bits of succulent chicken, and sipping on sparkling cidre. The breakfast was anything but typical: dark rich coffee, baked apple compote, an artichoke-heart egg puff, and a poppy-seed croissant with orange glaze. And best of all: our hosts and the staff attended to our every need and comfort without delay yet somehow managed to remain so inconspicuous. The perfect hosts.

Room Tip: The cottage had everything: big comfy bed, fireplace, cozy living room and bathroom. It was perfec...

Hats off to Frank, Ralph and the entire staff at the WhiteGate B & B for making just a simple weekend getaway a most wonderful experience. These folks truely live up to any expectations one may have just from reading their website. While my wife and I are by no way the most seasoned travelers, we felt like royalty from the moment we arrived. These folks really know how to serve it up!!!! And breakfast isn't half bad either...... Highly recommended!!!
