Wow! What an amazing and awesome destination. Of all of the B&Bs that we’ve patronized in our travels over the years, Reynolds Mansion now tops our list by leaps and bounds. This circa 1847 home, now part of the National Historic Register, has been meticulously restored and furnished by its innkeepers, Billy and Mike, to provide accommodations and experiences of genuine southern hospitality. From the minute we walked in the door, the charm of the residence was apparent with Billy’s very warm welcome, making us feel like old time friends that had found their way back home. The initial tour of the mansion quickly revealed that this place is packed with history in its structure, tasteful furnishings, and the knowledge that Billy holds of the previous residents and uses of the building. It immediately becomes very clear that this B&B is not just a business for Billy and Mike, but a true passion for these two innkeepers. Our room for our July 2013 stay is named All That Jazz and is one of three in the carriage house directly behind the mansion with a cozy porch overlooking a beautiful summer garden of flowers and fountains. There is even a nicely landscaped in ground pool to the side of the property. Our room was spacious and well appointed with a comfortable bed and modern bath. The breakfasts, served in the Dining Room of the mansion, were nothing short of gourmet and provided not only delicious nourishment for the body, but for the mind as well with Billy joining us each morning at the table in the role of engaging host and delightful storyteller. And an awesome story teller he is, covering everything from the purchase and restoration of the property to the history of its inhabitants and tales of residing gentle and playful spirits. If you’re a B&B aficionado, you must put Reynolds’s Mansion on your list of places to stay. Be sure to take plenty of time during your visit to walk through the mansion’s hallways and first floor rooms and carefully take in all that is artfully displayed and maintained. We really did not want to check out of this warm, relaxing experience and can’t wait to find an opportunity to return. This B&B sets the bar and is indeed an amazing place. A very sincere thank you to Billy, Mike and staff for allowing us to be part of your dream. Oh, and P.S. to Billy – get working on that cookbook!
