“We've stayed at historic B&Bs all over the country, but this one's THE BEST”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

My husband is a musician and university professor, so we've been all over the country for recitals, conventions, and performances, usually staying at historic B&Bs. We've been to places that were high-end and comfortable, but too "motel like." We've stayed at places where their idea of "charm" was lots of cherubs and frilly curtains. We've stayed where the gardens were lovely, but where the owners thought, well, that they were better cooks than they really were. BUT BILLY AND MICHAEL DELIVER THE GOODS. They have combined the historical with the personal in every room...this isn't a museum...alongside antique furniture are Scarlett and Rhett collectibles...old oil portraits are accompanied by lovely oils of Billy and Michael's mothers. The outcome is a real sense of the *living history* of this wonderful old house as Billy and Michael continue its story. Please read Chris S's review...he absolutely nails it. But I would add that the greatest charm of the place is dear Billy, who will, if prompted, share stories over breakfast with the guests gathered there; he reminds us that each of us who stays within those walls has become part of the house's history. We will never, ever visit Asheville again without a stay at the Reynolds Mansion.

Room Tip: Take your pick...they're all lovely. If you're thinking of evening drinks and conversation...

My wife and I decided to take a trip to Asheville from Chattanooga for our "Baby-moon" (the last getaway as a couple before your new baby arrives). After several weeks of deliberation over several B&Bs, we narrowed our choices down and ultimately selected The Reynolds Mansion, and our experience could not have been better. This place is not only beautiful inside and out, but it is FILLED with AMAZING history, from true stories about pre-civil war slaves constructing the home brick by brick and nail by nail, to stories of the Hope Diamond and its lore and connection to the Reynolds family and the Mansion itself. Billy and Michael, the innkeepers, are phenomenal hosts, and even though my wife and I were there only for two nights, we had a very hard time leaving, as we really felt as if we were leaving family. The stories that Billy shared of this place and his experiences here are absolutely mind-boggling and captivating. This place, as far as I'm concerned, is the best B&B in the country, hands down. Our room was comfortable, the breakfasts were elegant, very filling, and DELICIOUS, and the cleanliness and sanitation were top-notch. This home is clean and spotless. Regarding value, it is right in line with other B&Bs out there that don't have near as much history as this one, and in my opinion, it was of great value comparatively. It is also on a national preservation list, and must be kept in tip-top shape for its preservation certification and standards. If you are contemplating staying anywhere else, my advice is this: Stop. Make your reservations here. You--will--not--be--disappointed. We will be back, and you can book that. :)

Like the other guests who have stayed at the Reynolds Mansion, our visit was an absolute treat, in large part because of the gracious hospitality of our hosts, Billy and Michael. Breakfast was different each of the three days we were there and quite extraordinary. Billy had some excellent recommendations for dinner nearby--and chocolate chip cookies waiting in the dining room when we returned. Their home is the epitome of what a bed and breakfast should be.

Billy and Michael have lovingly restored this mansion and are wonderful hosts. The breakfasts are over the top and served on different sets of antique china each day. The Inn captures the atmosphere of the wealthy old south while still maintaining a homey feel.

Our room in the Carriage House was spacious, tastefully furnished and comfortable. The Kurig coffee maker was a nice touch.

The location is perfect for easy access to downtown Asheville, the Biltmore and highways. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.

His hospitality skills are beyond comparison..Billy not only cooked a unbelievable breakfast each morning but fave an extraordinary history of the Plantation and the families connect to the Plantation. Everything about our stay was great!

Thank you Reynolds team and Billy and Michael.

The Reynolds Mansion is what you always dream a B&B will be. Billy is the heart and soul of the place and is the epitome of a gracious host. He has put great care into designing a home where every detail has been thought through and made beautiful and lovely. I loved turning the fireplace on in our room (Claudette) and lounging there with a book, while glancing at the tented ceiling in the bathroom. I regretted not having more time to lounge in the lovely downstairs rooms as well (and trying the absinthe!!). My very favorite part of our stay were the elegant multi-course breakfasts served in the dining room (which always looked like it was ready for a dinner party complete with music and flowing fire) when Billy would tell stories about the house. He is a wonderful storyteller! I warmly recommend the B&B. Whilst in Asheville we also visited the spa at the Grove Park Inn. If there is a spa nirvana, I think this is it. You can purchase a day pass and lounge there all day long then have dinner overlooking the mountains. And of course, the French Broad chocolate lounge is worth a stop (or 3 ;-))

Room Tip: Claudette is perfect for 2 friends traveling together
