The Lion and The Rose Bed and Breakfast

Reviewed September 18, 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights 23rd - 25th August as part of a 17 day tour of North and South Carolina and Georgia.
This was our first experience of a B&B in the US (never mind North Carolina) and we were very pleasanty surprised. This was our second night in the US having spent the first night in an airport hotel at Atlanta.
Jim & Linda were great hosts with a lovely house and a very nice bedroom with lovely furnishings. The bathroom didn't have a bath but did have shower (a minor criticism maybe that it could do with a facelift, although we could see that they were trying to keep it in character with the rest of the house).
Much to our delight Jim introduced us to the pantry which provided us with snacks and hot & cold drinks whenever we needed them (very handy) and also the drinks cabinet with a supply of sherry or port.
The breakfasts were typical Southern cooking (although we weren't sure what that actually meant until it arrived on the dining table) and they were delicious although it didn't help our diets!!
Jim & Linda were very approachable and gave us lots of tips of places to visit including the Blue Ridge Parkway. We didn't visit the Biltmore Estate as we had heard it needed a lengthy stay to appreciate it fully and we were only here for 3 nights (also, we have many stately homes in Britain and once you've seen one, I'm afraid the appeal wears off a bit).
The surrounding area is beautiful although Ashville itself wasn't what we expected but that shouldn't be taken as a negative comment (it was just not quite what we expected) but it was ideal place to stay to explore the mountains.

The Lion and The Rose B&B in Asheville, NC did a terrific job welcoming guests and meeting guests' needs while providing privacy. You get a key to the place and can come and go anytime. There is a butler's pantry stocked with drinks and snacks and it is available 24 hours. The room actually looked like the picture from the internet and it was comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was delicious and the dining room was beautiful. The owner's even worked with my sister to have flowers, wine and chocolates in our room as a gift from her for our anniversary.

The inn is right off of downtown Asheville and it was convenient to The Biltmore and to all of Asheville's attractions. This is a great B&B for a long, romantic weekend.

What a wonderful experience we had at The Lion and the Rose Bed and Breakfast in Asheville, NC. We cannot say enough about the hospitality - Jim and Linda definitely have a gift in innkeeping. The rooms, the home and the yard were beautiful, and the breakfasts were incredibly tasty!! What a nice touch to have the little (pantry-type) room available 24 hours for snacks and drinks. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful - we have suggested our friends and family stay here as well. We look forward to returning to The Lion and the Rose soon!

We recently stayed at the Lion and the Rose after finding it on this website. We stayed in the Craigs-Tom suite and couldn't have been more pleased. The owners have a B&B that really feels like home away from home. Since this was our first time staying at a B&B we were not sure what to expect. The bar has been raised higher than we expected. The home is beautiful, the food delicious and the location very easy for getting around. The Craigs-Tom suite was so nice and so much better than any hotel we have ever stayed at. The balcony in the room, on the front of the house, offered hours of opportunities to relax and sit back and enjoy the time away from home. I can't wait to find another opportunity to come back to Asheville and show off the "gem" we found. Jim and Linda, thanks so much for sharing your "home". L&G Mays

We had a lovely stay at The Lion and Rose. The food was excellent, beds were comfortable and the innkeepers were always available to answer questions, but not intrusive. My favorite part was sitting on the wide veranda and reading while an afternoon shower fell. The landscaping was very beautiful.

We stayed at the Lion and The Rose for the first time this past weekend. We were hesitant to stay at another B&B since our first B&B experience was far less than desirable. However, this was a wonderful experience for us. The owners, Jim and Linda, greeted us at the door and gave us a quick tour. The house is well-decorated and impeccably clean. Our room, Fannie Rice, was clean, well-kept and decorated very nicely. The bed was comfortable and had nice linens. Our room also had a DVD player and the owners had a good selection of DVDs that were all available for guest use. There are also Asheville-area brochures for things to do, as well as games and playing cards for guest use. Another nice touch is that they also have this one room stocked with goodies, snacks, sodas, bottled water, port, sherry as well as wine glasses and corkscrews. This was greatly appreciated when we wanted to enjoy a bottle of wine in the rock garden at sunset as we had the glasses and corkscrew available. Another great touch is that you have coffee waiting outside your door at 8:00 am. As for breakfast – our compliments to the chef (Jim)! Not only are you served breakfast on fine china, but the food is gourmet. Jim’s menu consisted of a grapefruit half, sausage and then “Hummingbird Pancakes”, which was a new recipe he was trying out. It was superb! Basically pancakes with pineapple and coconut and some type of creamy-sauce topping. Jim and Linda definitely run a superb operation, and they were absolutely accommodating in every way. We will definitely be staying there again.
