The Lion and The Rose Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #11 of 39 Asheville B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 21, 2013

My recent stay at The Lion and The Rose was a wonderful experience. I felt welcome the instant I walked into the door! I need not ask for anything, as all my possible needs were available. The breakfast was exceptional, as well as the conversation. Jim and Linda are delightful. The Lion and The Rose will continue to be my first choice for accomidation when visiting Asheville in the future. I hope to return soon!

Room Tip: The Marian-Hall Suite is very comfortable as well as beautiful.

We just returned from a three-night stay at the Lion and the Rose Bed and Breakfast and enjoyed it so very much - as did our friends. The B&B is comfortable, clean and lovely. The breakfasts were wonderful and out hosts - Jim and Linda - were gracious and very accommodating... The little amenities were great - water - soft drinks - sweet goodies - all for the taking in the pantry... Jim and Linda gave us "tips" re eating out... selling us tickets to the Biltmore House and giving directions... We would recommend this B&B to anyone going to Asheville..... Donald and June Lafferty

Spent a night in late May with Jim and Linda at The Lion and The Rose. You could not ask for a more gracious couple or a nicer B and B to stay at. The property and rooms are immaculate and set in a gorgeous older neighborhood of Asheville. Our great breakfast and all the extras associated with their attention to detail will have you wanting to stay longer and future trips will be a must!

We only had the pleasure of staying 1 night at the Lion and Rose, but it is a lovely B&B. Linda and Jim were wonderful and their breakfast was absolutely delicious. We very much enjoyed our stay and will be back soon!

Room Tip: Turn the A/C unit on at night (not economy) so it doesn't turn off and on throughout the night!

We stayed in the upstairs apartment which was incredibly charming. The 8am coffee and the supply of water, sodas and homemade treats in the downstairs butler's pantry were a winning "homey" touch. The entire establishment was very clean and we felt very welcomed. This was my first B&B experience and I am hooked. I would give it 5 stars if a different breakfast had been served. Two eggs over beans, salsa and spicy meat were too much for this southern girl to handle and I spent the better part of the rest of the day in the bathroom.

We are pleased with the compliments about the inn and the fact that you would return. However, the comments about the breakfast are a surprise. Not only does our web site explain that we accommodate any special dietary requests, but we always ask guests upon arrival if there is anything they will not or cannot eat. If we had known that spicy food was a problem for you we would have gladly prepared something else or prepared your meal differently.

We think it is also important to note that on this particular morning Jim (co-owner & chef) had injured his knee and was being taken out the back door on a stretcher as breakfast was being served. We had called in our inn sitter and a friend to help cook and serve while we went to the ER. We informed all of our guests about this so they would understand why we were not present. Of course this was our problem - not our guests'. But the cook and server filling in at the last minute were operating in crisis mode and, therefore, may not have noticed anyone who appeared to dislike their food. If they had, they would have asked if they preferred something else.

Huevos Rancheros (the breakfast being served this day) has been a guest favorite for years. Our recipe for it (including a list of all the ingredients) is posted on our web site on the "Recipe of the Month" page.

A first time experience at the Lion & Rose and we'd return! Within walking distance of downtown Asheville in an historical neighborhood. Jim and Linda are very gracious hosts and the fellow guests were very compatible. You do not want for anything in the way of amenities. They have it all! The Inn itself is as beautiful as others have described. A good place for instant relaxation.
