“Perfect place for family reunion”
Reviewed June 23, 2009

In mid June our family rented the entire house "a la carte" for our family reunion and we could not have been more pleased. There were 11 of us in 4 different family units and each family had their own private suite and plenty of room.

The location of the house is perfect in regards to the interstate, down town and the Biltmore area. We were just minutes from all three. There was plenty of parking and it was laid out so that we were all able to park without blocking some one else in.

The deck on the back and the front porch were both awesome. The deck was great for outdoor cooking as it was just outside the kitchen door and the front porch was perfect for just sitting around during the evenings.

The rooms were tastefully decorated and each one was unique. Each (suite) had its own bathroom and window air conditioner.

The common areas provided a great place for us to just sit and catch up on old times. All the furniture was nice and comfortable. The kitchen was charming and was about like you would expect to find in a 100 year old farmhouse. It was well stocked with dishes and cookware and all the appliances worked fine. The house had a washer and dryer for our use.

We rented the entire house for just over $500 per night. That sounds high but considering that 11 of us stayed there (and we had a couple of beds we did not use) it was well worth the money.

I am not big on staying at a bed and breakfast and don't think that I would like it but as we had the whole house it was different. If we go back to Asheville again and have a need for an entire house, we would certainly try to book this place.

My husband and I went to A'ville for a fall get-away, and we just loved this place. It's so convenient to all Asheville has to offer, but it was quiet and appealing We recommend it to anyone who is looking for charm and comfort rather than sterile hotel rooms that all seem just alike. There's no elegance here, but there is real style and authenticity. The common spaces are quite attractive.

We'll certainly stay again, maybe taking the grandchildren next time or use it as a gathering place for a group of friends or extended family. Love it!

My boyfriend and I only stayed one night at the Oakland Cottage but we enjoyed it very much. Mary was great and very helpful with evertything. The room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast in the morning was fabulous and everyone was very pleasent. We plan on staying there again in the near future.

This is an adorable, very private cottage! Service and staff could not have been any better! And Jim is such an awesome cook! We came and went as we pleased and had plenty of privacy! We stayed in the Music Suite, which is actually an addition that was built onto the house. Our suite was very clean and was just as described, however the bathroom was very small, but the clawfoot bathtub was wonderful! The overall look is just beautiful! Only ONE VERY MINOR DRAWBACK...it's NOT in the best area of Asheville. Some of the homes around it were run down and the neighborhood itself seemed a little shabby...but if you don't mind these minor things, it's a very charming place to stay!

  • Liked — The service and the privacy.
  • Disliked — Not in a good neighbor, bad area of Asheville.

This is like the Embassy Suites of B&Bs! We had a great two bedroom suite with a little sitting room including a mini fridge (at a very reasonable rate compared to other similar inns in the area). For our larger family this was a great option, and for once everyone had a bed. Breakfast was great all three days of our stay (they called ahead to see what our kids would eat and accommodated a non-meat eater well). The Inn was very family friendly with a nice selection of toys and a highchair available. We ate take out food one evening on the large, well-furnished deck (the kitchen is available to guests during non-breakfast hours so we had plates, forks, napkins, etc) and also spent plenty of time on the front porch enjoying a beverage while the kids played in the front yard. The location is great between downtown and the Biltmore.

We recently spent 3 nights at this B&B on a trip that was part business but very pleasurable, nonetheless. We could not find a review, so we just took a chance on it. We like to sit outside and this place had both a back deck and a covered front porch. It was perfectly located for all that we wanted to do -- 12 minutes south of the Grove Park Inn, 6 minutes south of downtown, 6 minutes north of the Biltmore shops, but on a relatively quiet, out-of-the-way street. We had a 2-room suite and that was great because my wife likes to wake up about 4 am. The breakfasts were uniformly delicious. Our hosts, Dusty and Jamison, were most amiable, though terribly busy during the day, but we got a chance to chat some before going out to dinner and enjoyed their company very much. They normally serve breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30, but my wife had a meeting at 8 am the first morning, so Jamison whipped up an omelot at 7:30 -- pretty cool. Nothing pretentious here, but a wonderfully agreeable experience. Recommend it highly.
