This farm to table restaurant is innovative and fresh.

Order whatever thr wait staff suggests. We ate the scallops and the pig. But the steak frittes looked amazing...

After a wonderful tasting at Table during a Eating Asheville Tour, our group of friends had to decided between three restaurants that were in the running for dinner. Due to the James Beard nomination, vegetarian options for one in our group and the small, intimate feel of Table, we decided on Table. Loved the small size and simple decor. The dishes were interesting (I can vouch for the yummy black mashed potatoes). The favorite of the night was the Pumpkin Mousse dessert. Loved the exposed kitchen. Would recommend for a meal whose aim is to splurge, mark a special evening, and/or explore new cuisine / innovative food.

This was another downtown restaurant recommended by our B&B host. It has an interesting set up: upon walking in the door, the kitchen is on the right behind a glass partition, with a flurry of action going on as the restaurant is full. This is not just a show kitchen, it’s the real thing, not as large as you might expect but everything is prepared right in front of your eyes. Very entertaining to watch (if you eat at the bar you can watch the kitchen action while you eat). We had a reservation at 7 pm on a Thursday – don’t think we’d get a table without one. The dining room’s not large, high ceilings, glass front on one side, and glass brick wall on the other. The restaurant has a reputation of serving unusual dishes, and every night the menu’s different. Tonight the strangest item was probably a bone marrow dish. However we went with the less adventurous ones: grilled mackerel, beet salad and country ham (appetizers) served with a very fluffy brioche and pot of mascarpone cheese and jam. To finish we had the pumpkin mousse in a jar (we saw diners at the next table have it and immediately knew that’s what we wanted). Everything was delicious. Delicate but distinctive flavors. The only thing that could be considered a flaw is that the tables are all placed quite close together, especially the tables for two, although not as bad as some other places, it would have been nice if there is more space between them – in our case, we were at a table in the corner, a pretty nice cozy spot, except we did feel kind of boxed in by two other tables right next to us. Overall however, food and ambience wise, it is a very nice restaurant (a bit pricey – order carefully you might be able to get away with $80 for two) and since the menu changes every day return visits are definitely recommended.

We had a lovely and quite romantic dinner here. The dark, simple dining room is a very nice space, with cool music. Our service was good, not intrusive, and the menu was carefully explained to us, with good, informed advice about wine and vegetarian choices. Food was delicious with some real stand-outs: I had an arugula salad including a delicious goat cheese and ash ice-cream and candied walnuts - really wonderful. My partner had lamb done two ways with white beans, which was also excellent. The desserts looked a little heavy and we had eaten enough, so we didn't partake - but everything we had here was delicious. A lot of restaurants in Asheville are rather folksy and unsophisticated, but that's not the case here. I'd very strongly recommend Table; probably better to book a table here, it was very full. A great place for either a romantic dinner or to take parents/older people.

One of my favorite things to do when we travel is set the lunch and dinner agenda. I spend a lot of time reading reviews and pouring over menus trying to find the next great memorable dining experience. When I read reviews about Table and then reviewed the menu, I was intrigued and made a reservation. It was, by far, one of my top experiences in terms of cuisine. The restaurant is small and has a lively crowd. The servers boast the "farm to table" concept and you get the feeling that the staff is committed to providing a great experience. They have an uncanny precision to timing so if you are in a hurry, Table is not for you. Table isn't stuffy or uppity but the food makes you feel as if you are dining at a five star restaurant.
