“Wonderful Indian food”

If you like Indian food, you will not be disappointed. It can be a little spicy but always very flavorful. We go every time we visit Asheville.

“Good Indian food but not great”
Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

We had dinner here this evening. The venue was in a wide open space but with close seating. It felt ss if you with the table next to you. The staff was attentive and gave us a number of good recommendations. While the food was generally good, the dal fell short. it was blended and you lost the individual texture of the lentils. The nan was on the small size but was delicious. My lamb was tasty, flavorful and had the right level of spiceiness. The food was good and we will come back but we have tasted better .... Just not in Asheville.

“Food as good as an Indian Mother Makes”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

We live in the Asheville Restaurant and friends from big cities are amazed when we take them to Mela. The food is flavorful, made with fresh ingredients, ghee, and balanced spices. The buffet changes daily and always has 3-4 chutneys and pickles, a wonderful soup, different raitas, 2-3 vegetables, 2 chicken dishes, pakoras changing with the season, naan, papadams, and more. The deserts range from fresh carrot halwa, gulab jameen, to kheer, and other delicacies. Don't leave Asheville without eating here.

The lunch buffet is a great bargain, all you would like to eat, excellent variety of well-prepared food. The owner is Indian and oversees the creation of genuine-article dishes.

“Good lunch buffet, very busy place”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We went for the lunch buffet on a Saturday, which was <$10 including beer or chai tea. Place was very busy and crowded, we had to wait 10-15 minutes for a table, not a big deal although there's really nowhere to wait without being in the way of the line for the buffet. Large selection on the buffet, I thought the vegetarian selections were the best. Most of the food was extremely heavy so it's definitely not a place I could eat frequently. The atmosphere is cool and a little upscale.
