“Loved the Princess Anne”
Reviewed July 30, 2009

My husband and I visited the Princess Anne for our anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit! The staff was very friendly, the breakfasts were great (although my husband complained because he did not like the lavender in his crepe, I liked it though which is just a matter of taste), and our room was great. We stayed in room 207 and it was very spacious with three rooms not including the bathroom. The Princess Anne is very convenient off the interstate, but we chose to drive into downtown because it was about a 20 minute non scenic walk. We just drove about 5 minutes into downtown and parked behind the civic center which was about $1 a day!! We stayed in downtown several years ago, but enjoyed being slightly out of downtown because it was much more quiet and relaxing. The Princess Anne was quaint, quiet, and had a wonderful porch to sit on and relax while we enjoyed the great complementary wine and cheese. We will definitely stay at the Princess Anne when we return to Asheville.

Although we have never stayed at a true B&B, we decided to take a chance on the Princess Anne. We were not disappointed. The rooms were very clean (with the exception of the ceiling fan blades - only my obsessive wife noticed) as were the common areas as well. The owners have done a great job preserving the hotel and bring some modern amenities to the guests. The afternoon appetizers and wine tasting were great. Breakfast was excellent every day (and they had a perfect score by the health department). The staff was extremely helpful.

The hotel was very easy to get to from the highway, within borderline walking distance to downtown. There is a parking lot that could have been larger and street parking for anyone that couldn't find a space. Parking in downtown is a pain and can be expensive, so walking isn't that bad of an idea.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite that included a small kitchenette. As long as you can get over the fact that the sink is in the bedroom instead of in the bathroom, you should have no complaints at all.

Since this is an old hotel, you'll have to make allowances for creaky floor and doors that are difficult to shut. But this shouldn't deter you. This hotel was very classy. We had a great experience.

Just as a start: I hate staying at bed and breakfasts. I don't like feeling like I'm in someone else's house and I have to tiptoe around.

The Princess Anne is a small (16 rooms, I think) inn that makes you feel at home but is run with a thoughtful professionalism that anticipates all your needs.

We stayed for two nights in the least expensive room which was spacious and scrupulously clean. Had a nice sitting area, good closet, and smallish bathroom and the bottled water and biscotti were a nice touch. Magazines on the area were ample and a thoughtful help.

The staff was very friendly and, as everyone mentions, the breakfasts are fantastic. I like being close to downtown so we could try all the great restaurants Asheville has.

Yes, you can hear everything from the corridors and the rooms adjacent and above you but that's not a huge deal when you get a great price on a great place. We were there during the Phish concert and managed to survive. (Dude, The Band did it first and did it better. No need to play it over and over until 1:00 AM.)

Great, great place. We're already talking about going back.

We stayed at the Princess Anne over a long weekend and it was great. The hotel has lots of character, very charming clean rooms. The complimentary breakfast each morning was delicious and huge - we were able to skip lunch completely because of it, and coming back in the evening to a glass on wine on the side porch was great. Only negative was the person in the room on the third floor over our room who got up at 5 AM, put on heavy boots and kept walking around and around overhead for the next three hours - but that wasn't the fault of the hotel. Staff was very friendly, glad to give directions, and Dinah the cat was very friendly too,

We stayed at the Princess Anne for two nights, and didn't want to leave. We would have stayed a whole week if we could have. In one word, this hotel is perfect. It is beautifully restored and designed. The food is spectacular. The people are friendly. The beds are so comfortable, and the rooms are quiet. We had such a lovely and relaxing time, we can't wait to go back, just to stay at the Princess Anne.

What a great little gem for Asheville. Went for weekend to visit Biltmore. It was a relief to know we were going to sleep in very comfortable beds! Breakfast was great too! Highly recommend.
