We could not have been happier with our stay! Excellent location, but most impressive were the owners. We felt at home immediately! They gave us great tips on the locale from dining and attractions to directions. As far as the accommodations, first class! Breakfasts were far better than five star hotels we have enjoyed! Their personal touch is evident throughout! We look forward to returning some day!!

PS. Follow their directions, because neither of our GPSs could get us there!!!!

Thank you Patti and "Bear" for a great stay!!!

You won't find a cozier, quieter, more beautiful bed and breakfast in the Asheville area than this one. The koi pond and easy-walking woods trail through the property is only one of the highlights of this mountain retreat. Bedrooms available in a variety of sizes. Our queen size bed and small but spotless bath overlooked budding trees. Two lounge areas, one with a fireplace, provided extra space to read or chat. Hosts Patti and Bear could not have been kinder. Bear's breakfasts are amazing -- we didn't eat again until mid-afternoon! Arrive in the daytime, b/c the first time you drive up the mountain, it seems like you'll never get there! Once you know the way, no problem.

My wife and I had a lovely stay with owners Patti and Bear, just like previous reviewers said we would! We drove up (quite literally - it's on the side of a mountain overlooking Asheville) for a weekend getaway, and chose this weekend because of the Orchid Show at Asheville's Arboretum. This was our third trip up from Durham for the annual show, but our first staying at this nice B and B. It was cold and drizzly the whole weekend, but we were greeted warmly by Patti and Bear and had a cozy weekend enjoying their fireplace in the living room, while watching the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament! In between all the televised games, we did manage to get out and enjoy the orchids, too! It was great to talk with our fellow travelers while rooting on our team (Duke), as well as with our hosts. Sorry, Patti, your team in the pool lost (Gonzaga)! The six rooms were each decorated differently, and we enjoyed the rustic Pine Room, with pine-paneled ceiling and iron bed, which was soft and comfy. Not to forget to mention Bear's wonderful breakfast each morning -- hope you get a chance to have his extraordinarily light and crispy Belgian pecan waffle with bacon and egg, plus muffins, fruit, bread, and coffee and juice. Quite a spread! In short, we had a wonderful time the whole weekend, and highly recommend you also spend some time with Patti and Bear at their Crooked Oak Mountain Inn. We think you will thank us!

Me and My wife were looking for a quick get away for our 7th Anniversary. She really enjoys Asheville, and the B&B expierence so it became a no brainer. We Choose Crooked Oak because of its great reviews and we were not disappointed.

Nestled, in the mountains on 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, was a wonderful secluded get away. We were greeted by "Bear" and Patti upon arrival; we immediately feel in love with the property. They gave us a tour of the place and we knew we were in for a great stay. After checking in my wife to a short hike on the short moutain trail, while I took a rest in our King Size bed in the willow suite. The room was extremely spacious and emaculate and the private balcony was just the spot for me and my wife to enjoy the complimentary wine and beer.

The breakfast the next morning was excellent. I recommend the waffles with nut.
Our only regrets is that we didnt stay longer, but we do plan to come back soon and often. Since Asheville is only 1 hour away, we may have found our place to go when we need to get away and reconnect.

P.S. - Dont follow your GPS use your the directions from Bear and Patti. We left ours home and the GPS had us all over the place.

Room Tip: The willow suite is our choice

My wife, teenage daughter and I visited the Inn in early November. Since then, I have thought many, many times about just how wonderful our visit was (and wishing we were there). Simply put, I cannot think of any room for improvement as to the Inn. Patti and Bear are gracious and wonderful hosts, with just the right personalities and "touch" to make guests feel welcome and at ease in all respects. The Inn and grounds are attractive and comfortable, and the food is delicious. The location is close enough to downtown Asheville to allow guests to easily enjoy the city, but sufficiently secluded so guests feel like they are "getting away." I cannot believe that there could be a better place in the Asheville area for an enjoyable, relaxing stay. Very, very well done, Patti and Bear!

We had the pleasure of finding this delightful mountain getaway literally at the last minute on New Years Eve and boy did it make our celebration even more special. Bear is an awesome host and heartily greets you to his wonderful home the minute you arrive. He immediately recommended a few places to have New Years Eve dinner in nearby Asheville then called and made early reservations for us at a delicious restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed. When we returned we were surprised with a bottle of Champagne and scrumptious truffles!! We even got to see fireworks display at midnight through our window over the mountains. The next morning Bear fixed us a made to order breakfast that was both hearty and absolutely delicious!! We will definitely return to this awesome cozy comfortable friendly inn and recommend it to others!!

It was better than a 5 star hotel.
The breakfasts were AMAZING. You could choose from a variety of fresh fruits. Bear and Patty make their own muffins that are to die for. On saturday we had a wonderful frittata with bacon, homemade potatoes and bread. On Sunday we could choose either quiche or a home waffle... that I will never forget.

The place is beautiful and you are only 15 m from downtown.
Pat and Bear are very nice and warm people.
We will go back :)
