Enjoyed a lunch at this establishment. I had the BLT which was very good. Plenty of fixings to this sandwich. Hubby had 1/2 french dip along with the veggie soup. Both of which were great tasting. Waiter was helpful, too. Would return again.

The center heart of the city. People abound here to meet, observe and be observed. The open space is a refreshing plot to experience.

I thought there would be more to do in the actual city of Asheville - not that we didn't enjoy it, but the stores all closed at 6pm and the Woolworth's (which now hosts various artists' work) had slim pickings, but it was fun to walk through and see everything. Since we did oudoorsy activities during the day we had looked forward to eating in Asheville and shopping at night - but had to save it for the weekend since most things were closing up by 6 pm. We did enjoy our Saturday afternoon shopping and eating. We did check out Topps (for shoes - for all those 'nut and granola' comfy shoes you might like and can't find in the typical department stores) ; some other fun stores were fun to look in for beads and hippie attire or cute items, but I thought it was a bit sparse and I had hoped there would have been more to see and do. Overall the city was pretty easy to navigate and do in an afternoon; We did check out the river arts district and watched the glass blowers - I bet when there is more of an arts festival or something the city would be more interesting and offer more going on. We got our true 'lay-of-city' by taking the LaZoom Comedy bus tour early in our stay so we saw areas we knew we'd want to go back to. The pubs and restaurants were okay although we were traveling with teens so we weren't really bar hopping and didn't experience any of the places for later night music. I would love to have tried the Sky Bar --- where we could see people hanging out on the fire escapes --- but was somewhat disappointed with the overall shopping experience. Asheville is definitely a very casual town--- no real dressing up required and other than a short wait at Cucina24 --- we were able to get seated in most restaurants pretty quickly.

I was in downtown Asheville a couple of weeks ago and there were topless women walking around and one topless transsexual. Not a place for a family to visit.
