“Breakfast with friends”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We met friends for breakfast while visiting Asheville. We were going to Tupelo Honey as was everyone else and decided to forego the wait and headed to Mayfel's. I was a bit skeptical as it was empty and Tupelo overflowing. We sat in the beautiful courtyard. The coffee was not very hot whcih is a peeve of mine. Other than that the food was very good and we enjoyed have a bit quieter atmosphere. By the time we left the place was packed.

“1st customers”
Reviewed September 12, 2013 via mobile

The only bad thing is they don't open till 10. We didn't mind waiting cause we ate at Tupelo the day before and wanted something different. Best eggs benidict I've had. My wife loved the biscuits and gravy, and she is very picky. Just wish it was a little cheaper.

“The best shrimp poor boy outside Louisiana.”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

My wife and I visited Mayfel's on a Monday at 5:30, a great time to go .No.happy hour, but all bottles of wine are half price. On Thursdays micro brews are $3,and a Bloody Mary bar on Saturday and Sunday. Charlotte and I were met outside the door by the hostess who offered us a choice of seating. Out side dinning, inside the restaurant or in the courtyard. The weather was perfect and we chose the courtyard. Dog are allowed outside and in the courtyard. Several were present, all very well mannered We decided to share a bowl of gumbo with sausage, chicken, okra, tomatoes and rice. A shrimp poor boy with coleslaw and remoulade sauce on bread from Gambino's Bakery in New Orleans. We also ordered "Mama Mayfel's Meatloaf" with fried okra, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. With all bottles of wine at half price we selected Lucky Star Peno Noir for 11 bucks. The gumbo was very good, perfectly seasoned. The poor boy was excellent, the best I ever had outside Louisiana. The meatloaf was a little disappointing but still good and the mashed potatoes were great. The restaurant was not crowded and the service was outstanding. The servers need a dress code and the courtyard could some loving care. Overall a very good dinning experience .

“Indifferent”

Had high hopes but the service was haphazard and indifferent. Redeeming factor was the food. It was really good with generous portions. Preferred Tupelo Honey Cafe - even with the long wait.

“Sooo glad we got to eat here !!”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We were one of the Tupelo Honey overflow and boy we were glad we tried. Our wait wasn't long at all, and we were half way through our lunch when Tupelo texted that our table was ready, One of our guest tried the Bloody Mary bar and were thrilled, the rest had mimosas..
Everything we had was delicious, we were all happy that we ended up at Mayfel's and would definitely recommend and go back !!!
