Quick lunch, service was good and the salad was good. Pricing is right for what you receive. I'd eat here again.

“Valentines Day dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

We were in Asheville for Valentines Day weekend but we did not make reservations anywhere so we figured we would "settle" for something. Fatz Cafe was close to our hotel and after looking around we decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival we noticed a pretty large number of people waiting, I expected they would say a two hour wait. When the hostess apologetically told us it would be 30 minutes we were thrilled, but apprehensive, We got comfortable in the bar and had a drink while waiting for what turned out to actually be only 30 minutes. During that time, the manager came by and bought us a drink - what a great way to start our night!

The people were all so friendly, I still cant figure out why they all seemed so happy even though they were working on Valentines Day. We ordered drinks and dinner off the menu. The ribs are excellent as are the calabash shrimp and chicken. The asparagus was actually really good also.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by this place. Good food, good drinks and good people. It is definitely on our list for our next trip to Asheville.

“Sometimes hot, sometimes not.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2014

This restaurant was consistently great until the change in management partners there. The decor was also changed during that same time that the restaurant received a new partner.
My wife and I observed a noticeable difference in the quality of the food and some of the fish used in the seafood platters had a disgusting texture and was very slimy under the breading. After being "regulars" there for several years, we began to cut down our visits to the cafe. We were both saddened by the whole experience, since it was one of our favorite chain restaurants in town.
We recently landed in the area for some car shopping, so we decided to go back in and try it once more. I ordered the half Club, loaded Potato soup and the house salad. My wife ordered the Fatz Famous Fish, which was always her favorite in the past. After diving into our plates, we were pleasantly surprised that both of our meals were flavorful and very tasty.
Perhaps other patrons had complained about some of the same issues that we had been experiencing. Whatever the reason, it was a pleasant experience to see the quality come back, although not quite as great as it was before the change in management.
We'll be dropping by more often now and we're glad to be "regulars" again!

“Love their fish & chips”

Consistently good food & great service. Love their fish & chips...they will even prepare blackened if you are gluten free. The staff is extremely friendly & very helpful. Can't beat their loaded potato soup!
