“Hidden Gem of Asheville! Must do!”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

The Colburn Earth Science Museum is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. They have some of the most beautiful specimens and fossils. Recently they even had local artist exhibited! I have visited the Colburn wearing many hats; teacher, tourist, Ashevillian, and museum member. Each time I have been amazed the amount of enthusiasm the staff holds for innovative science education. They are very knowledgeable and capable. I recommend contacting to museum as they always seem to be having special events and discounts. I highly recommend a field trip or in-class visit for any school. They provide standard based lessons with high-tech gadgets like a geo-dome! A must-do in Asheville!

“This place rocks!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

I brought my kids here for a special Saturday program, and it was super! Educational for the kids and parents, too. Great experience all around. The staff were really nice and so excited about science! They also have a nice selection of very reasonably-priced stuff in their gift shop.

“Fascinating rocks”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

North Carolina has many stones in our soil, but this museum offered much more than simply that. It was fascinating to wander through and see the beauty of these rocks and stones, as well as learn more of their history. A fascinating place to visit.

“Not worth it.”
Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

The "museum" was small and you could pretty much see the whole museum from the front door. It would be an ok stop if there wasn't an admission fee.

Hey we might be small but we are mighty! CESM is Western NC's premier earth science resource specializing in earth science exhibits, public outreach, community events and unforgettable STEM education!

The museum is only part of what we do. We work educating all members of the WNC community on all things planetary science!

You also probably didn't see our 3-D digital projection system.... from now until May every first Saturday it will be going. Check our website for more info.

“Great, small museum.”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

Keep in mind this is a small, local museum. It does not have the huge funding of larger museums. They do a great job of teaching about gems and geology. Great for field trips.. Make sure to enjoy the blasting exhibit!
