Description: Chestnut is an American restaurant. We are in a 1920s era building in downtown Asheville, right across for the Aloft hotel and the double decker coffee bus. Parking is plentiful (and cheap) at the public deck under the Aloft Hotel.

Walked into the restaurant by chance during our last stay in Asheville. Nice ambience, excellent food, fair pricing, friendly service. What do you need more?

We descended on Chestnut with ten of us. They did a stupendous job of caring for all our food and liquid wants and desires.

Dinner last night at Chestnut was a mixture of good and bad. The trout was ok, the crab cakes were very good, as were the fried oysters, but the strip steak was very mediocre and was left less than half eaten with no questions from the waiter. The martini was good, the gin and tonic was awful. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and we won't be back.

My wife usually is spot on when picking restaurants. Unfortunately, she missed the mark on this one. Walking in the door, it felt dated and seeing someone in crocs made me wonder how someone could have called it "fine dining". Hearing that it was a new restaurant and the reviews it was receiving, I was a bit disappointed.

Went with the fried pickles for appetizer. Extremely overstuffed with pimento cheese, it totally killed the dish. Both our entrees were severely under seasoned and overcooked. The prices are extremely inflated for the quality of the product. I think the only bonus was that bottles of wine were half off.

We skipped desert. I just could not see myself giving them anymore of my money. The bathrooms were nice. lol. Unfortunately, we can not see ourselves returning to Chestnut.

If you are a foodie, skip it. Seriously.

We ate at this restaurant with a large group (10-12) for both lunch and dinner. The food was consistently good and the service was excellent. The menu changes daily. There are a variety of size plates, so that makes it easy to please different degrees of hunger! The mussels, trout, and beet salad were standouts. The cauliflower blue cheese soup was the only dish that was a loser. Way too much cheese - no cauliflower taste at all. The Dealer's Choice is an interesting cocktail option offered by Chestnut. You specify the parameters (e.g., sour, whiskey) and the bar tender surprises you. The wine list had good options for reasonable prices. When it is full, the restaurant is pretty noisy.
