Owner description: Highland Brewing Company has crafted the highest quality beer with North Carolina mountain water since 1994. Family-owned and Asheville’s first legal brewery since Prohibition, it is a favorite destination for beer fans, music fans, and families. From the balanced, food-pairing favorite Gaelic Ale, to the tad aggressive, fruit and pine hop-burst of Highland IPA, the portfolio always showcases quality. Highland’s name honors the Scots Irish who settled in the Appalachian Mountains in the 18th and 19th centuries. Highland does a great job brewing a variety of different styles of beer and all of what I have tried has been very good. They even contract brew for the Biltmore Estate. I've been on several brewery tours and this was at Highland could be described as "ho-hum." The tour guide- who apparently is a guy who works at the brewery in some capacity- just seemed to be going through the motions. He said several times that he did not know about a particular part of the brewing process and he did not seem interested in learning. Skip the tour- spend your time at the tasting bar.

We're sorry to hear your tour didn't go so well. Usually, our tour guides are upbeat and informative, so someone must have been having an off day. If you make it back out to Asheville, try the tour again! It will definitely be worth it.

Well the tour took about 20 minutes, tops, but we got to see the brewery and have some excellent beer. Very nice bartenders and very good beer. Gorgeous artistic touches throughout the tasting room and at their main entrance - worth the drive, for sure!

Great beer and brewery facility. Friendly service. Thought the beer prices could have been cheaper considering it`s made right there!

Thanks for coming by! We try to keep our beer prices competitive with other breweries in the area and we tend to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Hopefully the prices don't stop you from coming back for another visit!

We found this place by chance while looking for another attraction. We enjoyed their tour of the brewing process and got to sample some of their beer. I need to buy more of Highland beer.

Stopped in for a tour and they happened to be hosting a special fundraising event. We enjoyed a beer at their bar while waiting for the tour to start. Fantastic range of beers and they're all outstanding. Tour was about 45 minutes long. No brewing action going on while we were there but it was great to see the process. Every few minutes a guy would appear with pitchers of a different beer...generous portions. No fee for the tour but they encourage you to bring canned food or make a donation for the local food bank. That's pretty cool. Asheville has some oustanding brewers and these guys are one of the best.
