I make a point to stop at the Folk Art Center every time I go to Asheville. The quality of the exhibits is always exceptional and there are often local craftspeople doing demonstrations. There are many unique and interesting art crafts for sale. The location is peaceful and it can be busy without feeling crowded, unlike similar shops in Asheville.

Great local art exhibit. Quality exhibits and interpretation. Real and genuine works by talented students and professionals. All pieces exhibited had a price indicated. Thankfully we were travelling on motorcycles!

Nice place to stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway, just outside of Asheville. Craft arts for sale (though better selections can be found elsewhere, such as at Biltmore Village New Morning Gallery or the Moses Cone Manor near Boone). Of more interest are the permanent galleries of wood works, quilts and other art forms. Nice layout, nice facility

The Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center is nestled in a lovely wooded spot off the Blue Ridge Parkway right next door to Asheville, NC. If you're in the area, be sure to make time to park, walk in, and then take in all the exhibits by some masterful craftsmen and women. The day I visited, an NC intaglio printmaker was there who gave us the opportunity to try our hand at plate etching. Not only can you view the exhibits, there is also a retail store area where you can purchase the arts and crafts. When you're finished shopping, there are some great spots outside to enjoy a leisurely picnic.

Can't go through Asheville without a stop at the Folk Art Center. It's history is fascinating, the little museum is well worth a stop, the items for sale are incredible and there is always a craftsman demonstrating their craft, live. The prices are spendy but the quality is as good as you will find anywhere in the country. They are just pieces of art, to view, hold, cook with or wear. You'll find something to buy and pick up a few business cards where you can visit their websites. Don't miss it.
