You will find art all over Asheville and its surrounding towns, but the best art is the folk art. This whole area is full of ordinary people who kept the crafts alive, fincluding quilting, weaving. carpentry, blacksmithing, basketmaking and a lot of other you'd never even think of. This center displays the best of the best. You won't find things to be cheap, but considering the quality and the originality, they're well priced. Even if you can't afford to buy, you'll want to just see this. There are also exhibits at various times of the day. Prepare to be awed!

This Folk Art Center is in a beautiful location off the Blue Ridge Parkway and a short distance from Asheville. It combines both museum information and a craft store with high quality, beautiful and authentic folk art.. It is clean, bright and well designed. Staff know about the art and artists. Prices are reasonable. This is a must stop for us each time we go to Ashevile.

This place only gets better. This trip we watched several craftsmen demonstrating their craft. There is a BRP gift shop that had freebies for travel on the parkway. They will answer questions. The merchandise is even more varied than in years past. The guild store has tons of one of a kind handmade items. There is a museum upstairs. Quilt display. Bathrooms, water fountain, shady parking spots. We saw a mother black bear & her 2 cubs less than a mile down the road going north after our visit.

We toured the center in about an hour. The center gives you the history of traditional crafts in the southern Applachian area. Missionaries helped many women in depressed areas to develop the crafts that had passed down from generation to generation and turn those skills into a business to help support their families. You can also view some contempory crafts in wood, fabric, paintings, sculptures and much more. Changing gallery exhibitions. Nice gift shop where you can purchase local crafts. In warmer months artists actually demonstrate their crafts.
