Well it was great! Absolutely. Very organic and well worth any donation, but the rain came. So plan accordingly. We had no umbrellas but the kindly put up a tent for us. And the $2 chairs were worth not having to pack our own.

If you are in Asheville during the summer months I encourage you to check out Shakespeare in the Park. It is free to the public (but donations are encouraged). They sell beer and snacks on site and you can rent an Adirondack chair for $2. The shows are done by a local troupe who are all great and they always put a funky spin on each show. The shows take place at an amphitheater in the park so you can listen to the crickets while enjoying the sow. Just a good way to spend the evening.

What a wonderful time last week watching Hamlet outside performed by the Montford Park Players. The acting was superb. The setting designed for laying out a blanket and enjoying a picnic was perfect. If you like the theater and like Shakespeare, then this is a must do/see!

The venue is so fun -- filled with good old Asheville community. Arrive early! Food and drink available or bring your own picnic supper. The grassy tiers are lovely for spreading out on the ground, but do bring chairs for the performance.

The actors are great -- with a comedic flair when that fits the play, even wondering through the tiers of audience. Shakespeare truly comes alive, though I'll admit occasionally his play is a bit flat! Even then, the players do a good job of rescuing the evening. Though the drama proceeds without microphones, the audio is surprisingly good. (My hearing is terrible, so if I say it's OK, most folks will agree.) There is an intermission, so if the entire play is too long, you might consider skedaddling then. You'll still have enjoyed two wonderful hours, with friends, culture, and stars.

We took our chairs and a box supper from The Cantina. Got a beer at the outdoor theater and had a ball watching Shakespeare. Under the stars! Delightful.
