I visited this restaurant for lunch on a Tuesday, which was apparently a slow day for only two other guests were dining. I ordered the six-wing meal with “Hot” seasoning, corn pudding, and slaw. The sides were very delicious and fresh but the chicken was dry. Furthermore, I found the chicken seasoning to lack richness and zest. It had a simple, salty, red pepper flavor. I am a long-time enthusiast of hot, spicy foods but was disappointed. At this heat level, a habanero or jerk blend would have really improved the flavor. I’m not sure what went wrong that caused dry meat.

I was really hoping that this appealing restaurant concept would provide a great experience since I like spicy food. However, I must regrettably write that better flavored, tender, juicy chicken can be found at Hooters or even KFC.

Here in Portland there is a food cart called Cackalacks Hot Chicken Shack. Its aspiration comes from both Rocky's and Prince's in Nashville. When I first ate there I nearly lost my mind; huge fried breast, juicy as youve ever had, and spicy as all hell (if you so desire). It became a staple in our lives up until the original owners (who are from Asheville) sold it and moved back home. So, the opportunity to finally try the original was almost billed in our minds as a trip to Mecca. And, on our last night it town, for our last meal in town we rolled into their parking lot.
As we waited patiently in line someone from the kitchen called out "One Breast Left!! I almost began to cry, but to my good fortune, the folks in front of me were wing eaters and so I got my chance. I ordered it "Foothills", which is one step away from insanity; the seasoning is made with Ghost Chili powder. At Cackalacks I always ordered the "Hot" but never braved the "XXX". I figured this would be somewhere in between. I also ordered some fries for distraction, along with a $2 Pabst. After the logical amount of time my tray arrives and I cautiously begin to saw it apart. Size was not an issue, it was mighty large and the seasoning even LOOKED deadly. But the more I sawed, the more I saw, that the meat was pretty dry. My first bite, into the deepest part of the breast, proved this to be true. Meanwhile the fire is building. It takes very little time to realize that I have gotten myself in too deep. And that is fine, but the dried out thing is not. You need that juiciness to help squelch the flames on your tongue. Now I was just left with chicken that had the texture of bark rubbing the seasoning into my tongue. I did my best; daydreamed of half gallon milk jugs and ice cream cones and was finally through it. A waitress passed by our table and said "Hot enough for you?" with a sly smile. I would like to think that they know that theres more to it than just that.
Grade: C (Simple stuff: good fried chicken should be juicy. Everything else is secondary)

Rockys has been located near my house for awhile now but we just recently tried it. I am not sure what we were waiting for.

It is fantastic, if other places are finger licking good this place will make you want to swallow your hand.

The chicken is great and they have many degrees of spice. I am sitting third from the top of the heat but getting ready to venture hotter.

The sides are great with one minor exception being the green beans need more seasoning and a little more cooking. I also wish they had pinto beans.

Other than that I have no problems what so ever.

The hostess is friendly and willingly answers any questions you might have. They have plenty of seating and live music on saturdays.

The blackboard says it all. We are not fast food and do not sell chicken in buckets.

The spice is a combination dry and wet rub that brings a distinct flavor you are not finding anywhere else.

Please stop in to Rockys they are not Cocky just really great

Fried chicken, with varying levels of heat are the feature. It was overly spiced, and the breast was overlooked and dry. If you do visit, be sure and order less heat than normal. Even the mild is zippy. Sides are pedestrian and the wines available are awful.

A google maps search lead to this awesome restaurant. Their mac and cheese is to die for and their chicken was hot and juicy. Service was more than helpful and very attentive. We were just driving through, but would definately stop again!
