“Nicest hotel in Asheville”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

When I was choosing a hotel to book in Asheville, it seemed the selection was pretty thin. I picked the Baymont because it appeared to be the nicest hotel in town. . . . and it lived up to it's expectations. Nothing special. We were barely there for twelve hours. We stopped in Asheville on our way driving south.
The rooms were good and comfy.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding! Hot eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, and the usual donuts, muffins, cold cereal, instant oatmeal.

My husband at the last minute decided to visit the Biltmore Estates & we picked this hotel to spend the night. It is an interior hotel w/limited "TIGHT" parking. The room was great & clean. However, the breakfast area had very limited food & was TOO SMALL. The staff checking in was great; however the female employee checking out, was very rude & acted like she had somewhere else to me. Otherwise...for the money, this hotel was very reasonable.

While you can find other chain hotels in the area that are priced a little lower, we chose the Baymont primarily for the location. It's a bit more central than some of the others. You can walk to Biltmore Village, with its shops and restaurants. We had a king room, which was very large, clean and the bed was great. The breakfast was average, chain hotel fare. Decent, but nothing exceptional. Unless you are on a very tight budget, this is a great low to mid price option for the area.

The staff was great and the room was clean. Breakfast was excellent. The only drawback is the kitchen area also doubles as the bathroom sink. We are smokers and had to stay on the third floor with no balcony which was inconvenient and cold for our smoking outside.

Let's get the bad news out of the way first.....I would have given this hotel four dots (but it's certainly worth three and a half) were it not for the size of the breakfast area. Nine small tables simply aren't enough for an establishment of this size and it meant people having to stand around waiting for others to finish before they could sit down.
However, that is my only issue about the hotel, where we spent four nights at the end of a trip around Georgia and the Carolinas. It is clean and tidy and far enough back from the road for traffic noise not to be a problem - and our room (502) was very comfortable and spotless.
Because it's outside Asheville, it's in an excellent location to get out and about and it's perfect for the Biltmore Estate, with the entrance only a few hundred yards away. If you want to spend a lot of time in the city, however, a more central choice would be better.
I can recommend trips to Chimney Rock Park (although you can't climb the rock itself at the moment because the stairs are being renovated - and there are a lot of hairpin bends on the way there), Lake Lure and the native American museum at Cherokee.
We also drove the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the views from the various overlooks are simply stunning.
TIP: I know TGI Friday's is a chain - but the Flat Iron steak with Jack Daniel's sauce I had at the restaurant within walking distance of this hotel was absolutely superb.

If you want a reasonably priced place to stay that is close the Biltmore Estates, consider this place.
It is reasonable priced, has comfortable and clean rooms, and a good breakfast included. Additionally, there is a pool. hot tub, and exercise room. Eight people in our group concurred with this evaluation.
