Renaissance Asheville Hotel
Ranked #28 of 66 Hotels in Asheville
Reviewed October 6, 2008

We spent October 3- 4 at the Renaissance Asheville. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The pros are: nice size bedroom (we had a king), clean, comfortable bed (as Marriott Rewards members, they had our requested extra towels and pillows), delightfully polite and attentive staff, great breakfast buffet, and wonderful cosmopolitans in the bar. Cons: the air conditioning goes off and on; you can't set the fan to on, so it's either hot or cold, bathroom is very small, parking lot is small. Overall many more positives than negatives, we'd stay here again.

Pros:
- great views from upper floors
- great location - can walk downtown to shops, restaurants, bars
- nicely decorated
- nice TV
- staff was very helpful - provided walking maps of downtown, advice where to eat, etc.

Cons:
- Air conditioning was so loud when it kicked on and off it woke me up all night
- Thin walls - heard a lot in hall/next room
- Had to pay for internet access
- Very small bathroom
- Cofeemaker didn't work, or I couldn't figure out how to work it
- Fridge unplugged, had to dig behind entertainment center to plug in

Bottom line: if you are looking for a great location this is a good choice if you get a good rate. Biggest problem for me was the loud AC but perhaps that was just our room.

My husband and I had read some mixed reviews on the Renaissance Asheville Hotel. However, we decided to stay there anyway through the Biltmore's website and received a package. The hotel must be newly remodeled, because the rooms have all new bedding, carpet, tv's, etc. It was EXTREMELY clean which is a top priority for me! Also, we had made a request to be on a top room and they granted the request and even acknowledged it when we checked in. It was a great stay!!

I have stayed in many Marriott Hotels and have been very satisfied with them until I stayed at the Renaissance Marriott in Asheville. The rooms are extremely small and the walls are so thin that I could hear the television and water running in the next room. I had thought that the Marriott Hotel chains were famous for the comfortable beds......not this one! We had a king bed which was hard and the pillow choices were strange indeed. We had two standard size down pillows which were nice enough but then to finish out the pillows we had two very large hard 24" square pillows. The comforter was nice but was a heavy down so too hot to sleep under and the air conditioning system is very loud. We had planned on staying a couple of nights but checked out the next day. I would not recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance in Asheville, NC with my parents on their first visit to the area. They were impressed with the beautifully decorated rooms.
Rooms were big enough for us and we didn't complain about the size of the bathrooms, since we're used to hotels in Europe. They reminded me of Parisian boudoirs!
Everything was immaculate, the beds were comfy and can you ask for a more central location? I probably wouldn't go downtown with young children at night though ; we saw an incredible number of junkies begging on the streets on Saturday night.
We had breakfast at the restaurant one morning. The buffet was overpriced in my opinion...
Overall, a good hotel in Asheville, especially at a Priceline cost!

The room was nice, the beds incredibly comfortable. At the northwest corner of downtown it's in a great location. But $10/day to use WiFi in this day and age (and a $150/night hotel) is unconscionable. Give it away, guys.

We stayed at this hotel for Labor Day weekend. It is in a good location with walking distance to shops and food. The hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub, which is why we chose it. The rooms were clean and a good size. We never heard the neighbors or folks walking in the halls. The place seems to be well kept.

There were a few things. I would say as a practice, it’s a good idea to view the room before you sign on the line. Our 1st room had a very noisy AC unit, so we switched. They gave us a room on a higher floor but on the sunrise side. The only food you get for free is the apples at the counter. Like most Marriott chain hotels, its nickel and dime all the way. There is no free internet in the hotel period! Not even in the lobby. They even charge you for dialup. Sad.

Our trip was a disappointment. This is a tourist town, but the locals don’t seem to care that our money, most likely, makes up the bulk of their economy. The food was good, but the people were snobs for this mountain town. Don't try to get something to eat after 9:30. You will be stuck with fast food.

All said, the hotel was the best part of the trip, but Asheville is a “been there, done that” sort of place. Once is all you need.
