“What a Great Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

As other reviewers have pointed out, this is an older hotel, previously a Day's Inn. It could stand updating, but then it wouldn't be the value it is. For $76 per night, free parking, free breakfast, free wi-fi internet, a comfortable king-sized bed, a location in the middle of downtown across from the federal building, and cheerful service, where else can you stay?

We enjoyed one night here, and we'd gladly return any time. The only downside was a bit of street noise that was obnoxious only once when it sounded like a train coming through in the early morning hours. In retrospect, we think it was a street-sweeper.

I really enjoyed my 4 night stay. The location was awesome! My room on the 5th floor facing the mountains had been nicely updated and included a microwave, refrigerator, and plasma TV. The staff was extremely helpful with special kudos to Jolene. The breakfast choices included waffles, omelets, turkey sausage patties, and so much more. Would not stay anywhere else. Took the local transit bus from the airport and was dropped off 1 block from the hotel. Cost $1. Never rented a car. Perfect!

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor with a mountain view.

I agree with the majority of reviews that this hotel is a been worn down, but the location is the best in town!

Stayed two nights (10-13/14-2012), water was cold both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

If they could guarantee that I would have hot water in the mornings, I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Backside, side opposite the pool. I personally like lower floors so I dont have to wait for the elev...

During the weekend that this guest stayed with us, we were in the process of adding another water heater. We installed a mixing valve and water temperature monitor to assure that we have an uninterrupted hot water supply during this process. Obviously it failed at one point and we apologize for the inconvenience to the guest.

We want to assure all of our guests that we have an abundant supply of hot water as we have installed water heaters that far exceeds our needs.

My family and I have stayed at the DTIS several times, and each time there have been noticeable improvements. Most recently, there was a brand new elevator and greatly improved breakfast options. We had a room on the 5th floor, mountain view, and it was great. The only time we used the car all weekend was to go to the Biltmore. All of the shopping, eating, and partying in downtown Asheville can be done within walking distance. The money you save staying here really comes in handy at all the awesome Asheville establishments nearby. Nice pool, too.

Really - this place is great - I loved it - but it is a little "low key". We had been in a brand new Marriott Executive Inn the night before (for about twice the $$) - and no question - the Marriott WAS nicer - but this place is actually "cooler". The Downtown Inn does present as a little bit "dated" - and I made my girlfriend actually go look at a room before I agreed to stay there - to make sure she would be comfortable - but actually - the rooms - are the best part. They are "modern" and very clean and comfortable. She was fine with it - and she has pretty high standards. We were very happy. Oh - did I say the "best part"? That's not true. The BEST PART is the LOCATION!!! Ths place is right next door to all of Downtown Asheville - which is like the "coolest" place in the world maybe. Walk out your door - and BANG - you are THERE. Unbeatable at any price. The staff at the DTI ARE very nice and eager to help you out. The pool area is "fine" and the breakfast is "fine" too. We really had no complaints. I would definately stay there again - anytime I am in Asheville. Why would you stay anywhere else? Oh and be sure to eat at the Tupelo Honey Cafe - (just around the corner) it is AWESOME GOOD!

Room Tip: Well - we stayed on the "mountain view" side the first time - and we did try to get ti aga...

My husband and I have stayed at the Downtown Inn & Suites more than a handful of times. We live in Atlanta, so Asheville is a nice drive for the weekends. This hotel has always been very clean and staff is nice. The location is what keeps us from going to other hotels in the area, as it is in the heart of downtown. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops; you can even walk down to the River Arts District (including our favorite spot, Wedge.) As others have mentioned, the lobby/elevators are certainly not modern but the price, cleanliness and location make up for it! Not to be overlooked, there is a fabulous tropical mural behind their pool that we always have a chuckle over :)

Room Tip: You can request either a "mountain view" or "city view". The "mountain view...

When I travel I consider a hotel room a place to shower and sleep. I stayed here for 7 nights and was quite comfortable. Its nothing fancy but its clean and the staff was very considerate. Parking is a bit tight. Its a very short walk to everything you want to do and see in downtown Asheville and I would definately stay again.
