I love this ice cream! Its original flavors that change (sometimes regrettably so) often. My favorite so far was AshVegas (named after a blog for the area, which is also great!), which contained blood orange and spices that are something I think about when I want something sweet! My husband has had Boiled Peanut, I have had Russian Imperial Stout, Lavender & Honey, and an Indian Chai flavor I forgot the name of. They do have your usual, chocolate, mint choc chip, etc, but they are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I can't say enough. Food Network has been out to the OTHER Ice Cream shop that is in Asheville, but this place has a lot more going for it--- I have had the beer ice cream in both places, The Hop tastes sweet and mingles the flavors deliciously. The OTHER place tastes savory at times (I have had blue cheese Ice Cream at the Hop and it is over the top too!, but blue cheese at the OTHER place tastes like blue cheese in cream- not sweet at all). The atmosphere is better, bigger, funner (arcade games and children's area), centerally located (Merrimon or West Asheville, but never been to the latter). Sometimes they have music. They have very reasonably priced kids parties with balloon entertainment and sundae bars. The staff is kind, friendly, and patient with me tasting ten things before I decide what to order. When its a gloomy day, find yourself cheered up that this mom n pop can make the grade with the best Ice Cream ANYWHERE! Local ingredients are often featured.
