We were driving around town looking for some good southern BBQ and happened upon Moe's. We went in, looked like a typical restaurant, you order at the counter, very friendly service, so we all ordered something a bit different to share. Prices are more than reasonable especially for the portions and you get 2 sides with everything. I ordered the pulled pork and I have to say it is almost the best pulled pork I have ever had, and I go on hunts to find the best! The mac and cheese was delicious, and the corn bread (and I do not even like corn bread) was out of this world! Our entire family was stuffed and more than satisfied when we left, they ranted about the place for hours! A MUST VISIT in Asheville! :)

Sometimes I wonder about the taste of Asheville residents (and of tourists to Asheville who post reviews of restaurants here.) I'm speaking of what is currently the 15th rating on TripAdvisor Asheville of Moe's Original Bar B Que, out of some 450+ Asheville restaurants. In the past, the rating has been even higher.

We had lunch at Moe's today, and while it isn't bad, it doesn't begin to compare with a local place like 12 Bones.

C'mon, people, Moe's is a CHAIN, with more than two dozen locations in six states, including, of all places, Maine! (Don't confuse this Moe's with Moe's Southwest Grill about four blocks away on Biltmore Avenue, or the excellent but ill-located Chef Mo's restaurant on Hendersonville Road, which sadly recently closed.)

The ribs and pulled pork are tender, but the sauce tastes like something from a supermarket. It just tastes "commercial." The sides are pretty good, especially the collards and potato salad, and the Alabama-and-grits decor and ESPN on the Tvs in a semi-run-down building on Sweeten Creek Road make this feel like a local place, even though it's not.

I'll be charitable and presume that a lot of out-of-town visitors who don't know any better think this is a local BBQ joint and give it a positive review. Kinda sad, and even sadder if local people think this is where to get good North Carolina BBQ.

Lunch for two (two BBQ platters, each with two sides, cornbread and a soft drink, came to around $28 including a couple bucks in the tip jar (you order at the counter, pick up your own food and bus your own table.) Kinda steep for a chain BBQ lunch.

The ribs were perfectly cooked and the rub was so delicious that you didn't even need the sauce. The sauce was good too though with a perfect blend of sweet, sour and a little bit of heat.

The sides in my opinion are the best out of any BBQ joint in town. You HAVE to try the cornbread, thank god I got it to go because if not I might have O.D'ed on cornbread. The Mac and Cheese was great too absolutely homemade and very creamy. The coleslaw as just great as well super fresh and gourmet if thats possible with coleslaw.

Overall I just couldn't have been happier with my dinner!

It was our first BBQ restaurant in NC. Bar is set pretty high after eating here. Loved the experience as a "taste of North Carolina BBQ"!

No frills joint with great food. Get there early, they run out of stuff like ribs and Brunswick stew. Order as you enter, pick up your food when they call your name, bus your table and leave FULL of devious food. The collard greens deserve special mention. You won't have room for dessert.
