Sunny Point on Haywood Road in West Asheville is a gem. It is a small place and one sits almost elbow-to-elbow with the next table, but when the food is delivered to the table, it is worth the coziness. We've been there for lunch, which means you can eat from either the breakfast or lunch menu....and often we do both. Today we had shrimp and grits topped with a speciality bacon that was several atmospheres above the top rating and a crab cake scramble that was a delicious combination of crab cakes, scrambled eggs and a tomato and ricotta cheese sauce that was the perfect mix. The crab cakes included a tall whole-wheat biscuit and spicy grits. The shrimp and grits were outstanding, but the spinach salad that was the side dish was below top rung. We recommend this place because of the overall quality. The parking lot is tiny and there can be a waiting line almost any time of day. But it is worth the wait and is a great adventure in West Asheville.

I went on a Thursday morning with a group of six, nervous after reading about the waits. Fortunately, no wait, they quickly put two tables together for us, and we had a range of breakfast foods from "Savory Crepes" (filled with meat, egg, cheese, etc.) to Omelettes to Huevos Rancheros. All the food was extremely fresh and the prices were perfectly reasonable for the quality of food. The cheese grits were a bit watery but the chipotle kick (and, yes, it had a real kick) made up for it. Still, the maple-glazed, smoked, thick-cut bacon made this place go from 4 to 5 stars. I've never had bacon quite like that. Finally, our server was prompt with water and coffee, and very kind. Don't let the diner look and location in West Asheville fool you - there's a reason it's the #1 breakfast place in Asheville. On the other hand, if you're expecting exotic, New York city-style expensive breakfasts, you probably should look for something more upscale (and expensive).

Love this place. Best shrimp and grits in town (maybe because of the rocking bacon). Everything I have had has been fantastic. Don't tell anyone, but they have 1/2 price wine bottles on Saturday nights! Decent West Asheville people watching place to boot.

Reminds me of the ambience I found at the Main Street Bistro in New Palz, NY. The B.L.A.T (Maple black pepper bacon, lettuce, smashed avocado and tomato on a buttery croissant with garlic aioli) makes any other B.L.T. pale in comparison. My wife's Mighty Good Pork Sandwich served on a rosemary parmesan biscuit with apple butter mustard, melted brie and sliced fresh apple was equally savored. The bottomless cup of coffee was an added treat. I was told that the breakfast is one of the best in the area.
Peruse the menu and plan your meal if you visit the area.
