“Excellent Gluten-Free Indian Street Food!”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

The great sorrow of having to eat gluten-free is that you have to give up food serendipty: you can never just try some ethnic hole-in-the-wall, or food truck. And when travelling, you can never try the indigenous street food. (I came back from a recent trip to Turkey several pounds lighter, because every time I ordered "rice" it was actually rice with bulgar wheat in it, so I couldn't eat it.)

Chai Pani makes some of that great food available for people who can't eat gluten. The food is not cheap (not street food prices) but it is very good. The Uttapan and the Pakoras are great!

Awesome food and chaat. Yummy yummy yummy.
Location is great with some outdoor seating for not so hot weather. It's a busy place but the service is good.

“Brightly flavored Indian Street Food”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Tired of the steam table Indian buffets but love the flavors, try Chai Pani for brightly flavored Indian street food. I had two snacks: Bhel Puri-puffed flour crisps with cilantro and onion tosed with tamirand and green chutney AND Dahi Sev Papdi-flour crisps with onions, cilantro and chickpea noodles. Finger lickin' good! Followed by an Indian wrap-Kathi Kabob Roll-chicken seared with tandoori spices and the real surprise-okra fries, not slimmy fried okra but flash-fried tempura style. All this topped off with a local on-tap pilsner. The place was full of energy and the wait staff and owner guided you appropriately to your flavor destination.

“Indian Street Food”
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Interesting menu emphasizing small dishes (street food). Daily specials offer small servings of an entree , couple of soups, yogurt, slaw, couple of breads and rice and dessert. Excellent food in small restaurant where you may be seated right away or have a 30 min wait. Avoid table for two in center back, adjacent to unisex bathroom traffic. Rest of restaurant attractive and service professional and friendly.

“The best Indian food!!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I absolutely LOVED this place. Great drinks! Kale pakarotas, okra fries, lamb kabobs all divine!! Sat at the bar and bartender was helpful and knowledgeable. We are big Indian food fans and this is the best around bar none!!! We are from Atlanta and ecstatic there is a Chani Pani in Decatur now!!!
