Owner description: Located on the edge of the University of North Carolina – Asheville the Botanical Gardens at Asheville were a real treat to visit. First, the Garden is located about 10 minutes from downtown Asheville which made it an easy site to visit. Second, the trail is well tended, beautiful and relaxing. If you ran it the trail is maybe 15 minutes long. If you stroll then it’s as long as you’d like. Lastly, and most important, you get to see some truly spectacular native plants in their natural habitat including a very rare Pink Lady’s-slipper orchid (Cypripedium acaule). As a matter of fact I saw FOUR with two still in bloom as well as several yellow and white lady’s slipper orchids that had finished blooming. To see them in their native habitat is rare enough. That some knucklehead had not come by and picked them is even more amazing. Some added treats include a large stone near the main stream that clearly shows the markings of its molten past and appears to be shaped like a dragon.

The Botanical Gardens at Asheville offers beautiful walking trails with a wide variety of serene plant life. It is an excellent place to take the family and an easy walk on either the short or long trail. It also makes for a remember cheap date. The cards allow for easy identification of the plant life. A creek runs through the gardens and is a cabin on the top of the trail. Many places offer just enough privacy for a safe and fun picnic. Is hard to believe this is so well hidden beside UNCA in North Asheville. This is a treasure of the community shared with the public freely to enjoy.

These botanical gardens, located next to UNCA, are relatively small. Part of the path meanders over and beside a lovely stream with lots of foliage and awesome rocks and boulders. The path is curvaceous and even at a busy time offers some solitude. It offers a quick respite for those with time constraints. Pushing a stroller can be challenging, but not impossible!!

The Gardens wander along a stream, flowers and ferns and native plants popping up everywhere. A small but pleasant gift shop offers info and items for nature fans. Very near town, convenient location!

It was not that great ...gardens were run down and actually not much to see. In Birmingham ours is fantastic and I assumed it would be a lot like ours, however, it was disappointing.
