Gravy, sauce, what ever you want to call it. The Sunday linguine and gravy was absolutely to die for. It was loaded with slow cooked homemade meatballs and sausage. This dish was better then I've had anywhere, including Italy.
The wait for a table was made more pleasant when a sampler was brought out for the folks hanging out near the bar.
Looking forward to another visit when in Asheville.

The wife and I recently enjoyed an extended weekend vacation in scenic Asheville, NC. We chose Vinnie's neighborhood restaurant because we dearly enjoy Italian cooking. Also this restaurant was chosen because it was NOT downtown, was patronized by locals and was rated well by TripAdvisor. The place was packed so were glad that we made reservations. My wife had stuffed (spinach & crab meat) North Carolina Mountain Flounder (?) while I ordered veal ptarmigan on a bed of spaghetti with red sauce. I ordered a single meatball to better taste the "Italian" this restaurant offered.

Our surprise was that we both had bland meals. Nothing memorable here. The wife's dish had no flavor when it should have been rich in taste because of the crab meat stuffing. My veal was VERY, VERY chewy. The red sauce served atop my spaghetti was uninspired as it had no depth, no richness. Good Italian red sauce is when you use your bread to mop the plate clean - not even close here. Unfortunately, the red sauce perfectly complimented the tasteless meatball.

The service at Vinnie's was excellent and our waitress fully understood the menu's offering and answered our queries promptly. The manager also stopped by the table. Price for our two meals,1 drink apiece and tip ran $72 which we thought excessive given the quality of our two dinners. In Asheville, we had better meals for 1/3 less money.

I stated earlier in the review that Vinnie's was crowded. Perhaps, the executive chef was off duty Friday night, on vacation or sick when we visited. As many patrons were eating pizza, Vinnie's may be the place for pie. These excuses are speculative - we really don't know why this place has the patronage. Perhaps it is just us. Nonetheless, our recommendation to fellow "paisans" is to seek Italian elsewhere.

While we can appreciate the honesty and opinions of all of our guests, and especially our Goombahs, I have to say that this review seems particularly unhelpful for portraying the overall experience of our family business.

We are thrilled that our Service merited your rating of Excellent, and we would contend that our menu contains many satisfactory entrees and options for a wide range of prices. As to your preferences for our recipes, we can only say that pounds of fresh, local basil, cups of fresh garlic, and the best imported Italian tomatoes we can find makes for something that (fortunately for us in this business environment) most of our customers love and return for. Vinnie's serves neither tasteless food nor tasteless people.

However, to say that your total experience ranked as "terrible" seems a bit excessive, and is honestly quite damaging to a small, local, family-owned business. We invite you to return, and we encourage readers far and near to evaluate just how much flavor we can pack into an evening!

I first ate at this restaurant when it was Greek diner. Then loved both the first and second versions of Savoy in the same location. We were initially put off by the steep prices for fairly basic Italian fare when Vinnie's first reopened, and didn't even bother to try it out.

After reading on TA about the prices coming down a bit, we tried it out tonight. We loved this restaurant! Prices are now on par with Carabbas, and the food is much better. Both the giant seared scallops over linguini and the chicken parmagiana were outstanding.

Asheville is full of restaurants that are frankly way overpriced. This restaurant fills a real need for the mid-price category that cares enough to make real Italian dishes from scratch. You have a couple of new regulars to count among your growing devotees. Even us locals like to come from the moors to enjoy excellent food and stellar service. Great Job!

Came here with our dirty children after picking them up at sleep away camp. Food is very good and the service is excellent. Good value. We had two issues that the manager took care of with class and professionalism. I ordered the sausage peppers and onions. Plate came cold. They took it back and in 10 minutes brought me a new serving that was excellent and worth the wait. My daughter ordered just a plain rigatoni with sauce on the side. Portion was a little light and they graciously brought another serving of pasta. I like when restaurants do the right thing. The place was busy when we got there but good service and prompt attention to problems make for a delightful experience. They took the sausage and peppers off the bill and did not charge me for the additional pasta. Thats how you you do it! Will return again.
