We stayed here for one night when driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We knew it was on the edge of town but the range of shops and restaurants in the new development was totally unexpected. We altered our plans & took advantage of the Hilton's generous check out time (12:00 as standard) to spend some time the next morning browsing the shops.
The hotel itself is a new, spacious, comfortable building & we received very good service from all the staff we dealt with.
Our room was large, stylish, spotlessly clean & well-appointed - everything you would expect in a Hilton. One surprise was that the bathroom didn't have a bath but a large, top quality shower occupying the same floor space. It worked very well for me & my husband but, if a bath is important to you, you might want to check if rooms with bath are available.
We didn't eat in the hotel due to the easy access to alternatives within a 2 minute walk (Brixx for pizza on the Saturday night with a live band playing outside & Starbucks in Barnes & Noble for a quick, light breakfast). We did take advantage of the free coffee for guests available in the lobby.
I was a bit disconcerted by the number of children in the hotel. A fellow guest told me that there is a summer camp nearby and lots of families stay there en route. The children we encountered weren't badly behaved (some were delightful) but some of them were allowed to play in ways I didn't think appropriate ie sitting in a group in the middle of the corridor or playing in the revolving doors at the main entrance while guests were trying to come & go. I was worried about the prospect of noise but the only disturbance was a mother who kept bellowing from the corridor through the closed door at her child.
As usual, the bed was huge & extremely comfortable. We had a great night's sleep.
The only complaint I have concerns the stairs. My husband is mildly claustrophobic & uses the stairs whilst I take the luggage in the lift. We were advised by reception that the only access to stairs is via the restricted employee area & he would need to be accompanied on every occasion. For a new hotel, in a major chain, I find this extraordinary.
Overall, the stay was very comfortable & relaxing. If you don't need to be in the centre of Asheville I would recommend it to anyone.
