We stayed at three hotels in Asheville this month during a pleasure vacation--the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park (rated#6), the Hotel Indigo (rated #7) and the Haywood Park (rated #25). We found the ratings to be in correct order, and indeed the first two listed are very close to equal. The Hotel Indigo is located right in downtown Asheville just off the Interstate highway. Downtown is vary interesting, and a bit perplexing with some one-way streets that curve and confuse. We found several great restaurants downtown, as well as a number of bohemian shops. "Dinner and a movie" theaters were a new surprise for us, and Asheville has three of these. The Indigo is a fun splash of color, designed in a Swedish style. Rooms are average size and have recently been remodeled to continue the delightful splashes of color that begin at the front door of this hotel. A few items were missing from our room, like the mini-fridge, and the room was a little less than perfectly clean. Otherwise I accept the rating for this hotel as about right--a fun, colorful experience in the heart of Asheville.

We chose this hotel because of the location, but also because of the value. Yes, there are some hotels as close that are cheaper, but we felt like the value for the Hotel Indigo outweighed the one block closer we would be. Rooms were very clean and nice. The bed was a little too firm for my taste and it was annoying not to have a fan or some other sound buffer for the bathroom. Very cool coffee maker.

The hotel is just a couple blocks from the many shops on Haywood Street. Every night we walked to restaurants, bars, and breweries to get some of the local flavor. We also took the urban trail through downtown to get us more acclimated to the area. It was a short drive to the Biltmore and Grove Park Inn, where we went to catch the amazing views at sunset one night. All in all a great pick in Asheville.

Excellent location in downtown Asheville. This was my second stay at this hotel and I've slept very well both times as the bed is VERY comfortable. I will admit that I've never been in a room on the highway side of the hotel, only on the side facing downtown, so noise has never been an issue. The rooms are decorated in a very cool way -- as you'd expect from a Hotel Indigo. The bathrooms are sparkling clean and have a huge shower. I wouldn't say the staff is excellent, but I've come to expect a bit of a lackadaisical attitude from hotel clerks in Asheville -- at least they great you at the Indigo and don't act lack they hate their jobs (which is the attitude I've been met with at most of the other hotels I've stayed at in the area).

This is definitely my hotel of choice when staying in Asheville. I'll be back!

Easy access to walking downtown Asheville; Easy access to interstate for surrounding area attractions. Excellent front desk personnel - kind, helpful and fun! Rooms were clean, well maintained. Motion sensor lights in hallways were wonderful. Breakfast was good - and fast.

Our room was very attractive, large, clean, comfortable, nice view of downtown. The bed was comfortable, room dark for sleeping, hotel fairly quiet (we were put on the 9th floor to get us above any highway noise). I left a note with housekeeping our first morning and a small problem was taken care of immediately. We liked that there was a hard finish floor (no grungy carpet); bedding was covered with a sheet over the down blanket so the bedding was clean each day. The hotel is 2 blocks from the Grove Arcade with some great restaurants (especially Modestos) and the fantastic Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar (what a great place!!--we were there every night for a large glass of wine and to look at the books). The only things that could make this hotel better would be a small refrigerator and microwave in each room.

This hotel is very modern which is very different for me, but I ended up liking it a lot! The check in was quick and easy with us having a King view room in room 400. I was expecting a room with a wall of windows (I pictured from ceiling to floor) but that was my fault for assuming. The view was amazing - even though it was of the highway too. The furniture in the room was very nice and if I could have taken the desk and the chair home with me - I would have! We could actually see the Grove Park Inn from our room. The bed was absolutely amazing! The perfect firmness for us!! There were plenty of pillows and they were very comfortable. The chair with ottoman beside the bed was an excellent option for reading and watching TV. I also LOVED the huge shower! It had a seat in the shower which was perfect for holding the towels (yeah - it was big enough to have a towel on a seat and NOT get wet!!) The bathroom was nice, but the only draw back was the vent door for the bathroom. There was no fan in the bathroom either so with the bed so close to the door you could hear everything going on in the bathroom. So run the water if you are a private person like me :) We never ran out of hot water. The awesome coffee maker was one of the Kering ones that makes the one cup at a time. It was tasty! There was also two bottles of water.

The location was also superb. We chose this place because of the accessibility to downtown. We walked around Friday and Saturday night and ended up eating at the Grove Arcade - the Charizo and Cats and Dawgs - Charizo was very good (pricey) but good. There were so many choices to go to, we walked around for a while trying to make up our minds. We came up to go to the Biltmore which was a quick 10 minute drive. The restaurant downstairs was more like a bar, but it was fun. they had live entertainment on Saturday night (we missed it because we were out) They always had a lot of people down there eating though. We stopped for drinks on Friday night and they were very friendly with service. We did order breakfast in the room on Sunday morning and it was brought quickly and it was very tasty.

Overall this place surprised me - I had very very high expectations for the room, was let down because it wasn't what I pictured, but then it ended up being a beautiful peaceful room...even with the highway noise (which doesn't bother me) - we plugged up the IPOD to the alarm radio to listen to the rainmaker on there to help us sleep. The hallway noise was a little loud too, but being on the end it wasn't that bad. THANKS! OH INTERNET WAS FREE!!!!
