“Nice place to visit, will return in the summer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

We stopped by to show the kids the Holly Garden which is dedicated to their grandparents. They enjoyed looking at all the Lego displays. Yes most of it is closed up in the winter but it is still a lovely place to walk around and to look at all the art displays.
Didn't mind the parking fee, since this place need the money to keep it maintained.
We are planning a return trip in the summer.
There is a small restaurant, but it also closed in the off season.

“Beautiful on a snowy day!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We loved the North Carolina Arboretum, even on a blowing, snowy, cold day. Trees are fascinating in the winter because the structure of each is so clear. The exhibit was made up of Lego sculptures of a gardener, a bison and calf, a lawnmower, flowers, bugs, fish, and a whole lot more. These were not teeny weeny, but much larger than life! The wind was blowing snow in our faces and it was super cold, but we enjoyed ourselves very much. I'm looking forward to a return visit!

“Wonderful place to hike, bike & learn all there is to know about nature.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

On-going classes for everything in nature, a wonderful Lego's display right now...and, my favorite, one of the best Bonsai display with annual Bonsai, Bamboo & various flower & plant shows throughout the year. Have a dog...no problem...plenty of space to walk them (even has bags & disposals). Don't forget to try their little cafe & visit their gift shop for unusual finds.

“Not worth it in the winter.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

We went in mid-january. Greenhouses closed at 2:00 PM and Bonsai collection was all moved elsewhere. I expected the Bonsai collection to be indoors, but it wasn't.. Free admission but $12 to park, and there was hardly anything there.

“Nice hiking and excellent special exhibit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

We visted the arboretum with our puppy (very dog friendly!) in January. It was a bit chilly, but sunny which provided for some lovely hiking. We got lucky as a special exhibit "Some Assembly Required" - a lego art exhibit - was displayed while we were there. It was outstanding!

I would definitely recommend going to the Arboretum, especially if you travel with your dog. It's probably a little better in the spring and fall when the flowers are in bloom or the leaves have changed colors. However, we were very impressed with the facility, hiking trails, and art exhibit. The only negative is that it cost $12 to park which seemed a little pricey. However, that's the only fee for entering so if you have a children, it's a great and inexpensive way to spend an afternoon!
