We visited on a warm July morning. Partial cloud cover helped me get some good photos of plants, garden features and sculptures. Everything was in bloom and looking beautiful!

Give yourself lots of time--the trails are beautiful and there is a lot to see. A lot of easy walks with just some slight inclines make it suitable for hikers of all levels.

When I thought of an Arboretum, I thought of formal gardens which can be quite beautiful, but are not exactly what I seek in Asheville. I'm looking for hiking with scenic vistas or waterfalls or mountain streams. Well, I was quite surprised to find wonderful hiking and biking trails at the Arboretum, as well as gardens. We took our dog along on his first hike (which he loved). We took a hike that led us to a beautiful mountain stream and small waterfall. The stream was heavily covered by bushes so that in spots it was as dark as dusk. It was a wonderful hike. One more note - the hikes are well mapped and accurately categorized by level of difficulty.

We enjoyed our visit to the Arboretum. The Bonsai Garden was fabulous, remarkable and unique. There is much terrific art scattered throughout the gardens. If you are interested, the Arboretum provides a map of the art so you can learn more.
The Quilt exhibit has ended, at least for now, but there is so much to see. As someone else posted, this is really a first class facility. You do pay a small amount for parking, but that is the only cost.

For a parking fee of 8 dollars!!! These paths and gardens were amazingly beautiful. One of the finest Arboretums I have ever visited- The most amazing bonsai exhibit we have seen!!! Friendly staff!!! Birds galore too!! Well worth a day visit- 2 hours to enjoy the gardens- longer if you want to explore the trails...
