“Lovely place for formal gardens and a walk in the woods”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed the bonsai display and the more formal plantings, but found the best part was just being able to walk in the woods and by the creek. The trails are very well maintained and quite easy, plus they are cool on a hot day. This is a lovely spot to spend a couple of hours.

“Great 1/2 day excursion just off the Blue Ridge Parkway!”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

This is a well maintained facility with something for everyone interested in plants. Even children will find the extensive Bonsai exhibit amazing. Be sure to visit the production greenhouse early in the day (closes to the public @ 2:00pm) Very nice shops and galleries. We really enjoyed the cafe. The food is outstanding! Very imaginative, varied menu with a lot of fresh, healthy options including organic ones. They also featured a tray table with fresh water, paper bowls, and all natural dog biscuits on the covered deck.

I will return in the fall for all the color change!

“Great for working out but for a visit, not so much”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Maybe it's because I've been to other Arboretums that seemed to be better put together, but this seemed more like a nature trail than anything else.

The bonsai exhibit was great, and the visitor's center had nice bathrooms, but overall there wasn't much to see.

I'm giving it an average rating because it only cost $8 to get into for the entire family but had they charged us a regular fee and weren't so nice (everyone we encountered there was great) I definitely would have given it a 2 or a 1.

So excellent if you're a local and you've nothing better to do or you want to go work out along the trails, but we actually made this a destination location for when we were in Asheville because the reviews were so great and I was really disappointed.

“Unexpected adventure!”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

We stumbled up on this and decided to give it a try. You pay $8 for parking and then tour the grounds and exhibits for free. The bonsai exhibit was worth it alone. Awesome. We took a hike on one of the many trails. The only reason we left after 3 hours was because it was raining too hard. We were on one of the trails and were fine while it was just sprinkling because of the beautiful trees overhead. Don't miss this if you are in Asheville.
