“Walking history”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

Saw this activity in travel brochures and were aided and encoouraged by the staff at the Haywood Park hotel to give it a go. The weather was relatively cool with a light breeze in the later afternoon, so we jumped onto the "trail" and were educated and entertained while experiencing many of Asheville's founders, interesting architecture and essential cultural perspectives. The walking tour is entirely on paved streets and walkways, with points of interest marked with explanatory plaques, applicable structures and unique artistic pieces. The tour covers nearly two miles, some of which includes hilly streets and walkways, so good walking shoes are recommended. Completing the tour not only provides a broad perspective on the roots of Asheville history, but also offers a complete orientation to the downtown core, including many key streets and shopping/eating/lodging areas for future exploration.

“You will love Asheville”
Reviewed May 21, 2014 via mobile

Urban trail gives you all of Asheville the way it ought to be. Don't miss the opportunity. Even In the winter the weather is manageable, but in the summer it is spectacular.

“Historical Tourism at its Best”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

The Urban Trail in Asheville NC is a walking tour of downtown Asheville. It highlights the unique architecture, people and historic events of Asheville. From the huge flat iron honoring the laundry district, to the pigs and turkeys in the center of downtown to honor the old Buncombe Turnpike trod by native americans and travelers taking their produce to market to the replica of Thomas Wolfe's shoes that you can stand in on the sidewalk in front of the his mother's old boarding house, there are 30 stations to delight and surprise the travelers. It is a not to miss outdoor museum to be enjoyed by adults and children alike. The self directed tour takes you past some of Asheville's best coffee shops, restaurants and shopping.
