“Good Hotel at a great Price”
Reviewed September 12, 2010

I have stayed at the Brookstone Lodge twice while on motorcycle trips through Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The location is very convenient to the Parkway and Interstate, but there is nothing around the Hotel itself. The Staff has always been very friendly and the rooms, while small, are clean, modern, well appointed and feature free WiFi and Flat Screen TV’s. The complimentary breakfast is good, with fresh fruit, hot entrees and good coffee. Prices are extremely reasonable for a Hotel of this quality. So, with the price, cleanliness and newness of this Hotel, I would highly recommend it.

Brookstone was fantastic. It was very clean, had an attractive decor, offered free breakfast (eggs, waffles, cereal, fruit etc.), and had an indoor pool and hot tub and small fitness center. You really got so much for the price. We have a 2 year old who loved the whirlpool bath in our hotel room. It was huge, big enough for my husband, daughter and me to fit comfortably. Although we did not partake, the hotel is located right next to the Fun Depot, which seemed to be a huge family recreation center.
The staff was all very friendly. Here is what really stood out to me. I lost my GPS on this trip and assumed it had been stolen from my luggage at the airport since I was sure I'd packed it. About 2 weeks after returning from this trip, the GPS arrived in the mail sent from the hotel's manager Matthew. Unbelievably! I wonder how often that happens. Next time we return to Ashville, we will stay at Brookstone.

My husband and I were looking for good rates for a room with a fridge and microwave. This one fit perfectly, especially with AAA rates. We would categorize it as a top-of-the-line budget hotel. The rooms were very clean and nice. We did have a slight problem with some bedding that smelled like mildew, but they were changed for us immediately, and we had no further problems. The staff were friendly and helpful. The free parking and free wireless Internet were great pluses for us. The wireless access was strong and never went out when we needed it. The TV had a great picture, and the accessible channels were plentiful. The deluxe breakfast was good with multiple choices.

The cons--I will say that the "fitness room" has three pieces of mediocre equipment--a Nordictrac treadmill (that can be folded and appears to be a consumer-grade item--not one suitable for heavy use in a hotel), a stairclimber, and a multi-use weight machine. I ran 4 miles on the treadmill with no problems, but it keep turning off for my husband. So, he tried the stairclimber, but it was stuck on the most difficult setting. The fitness room was important to us, but b/c we were able to do such active things during the day, we just swore it off. The outside patio area that is advertised on the Web site is also misleading. It is an outside area, but it faces a fairly busy highway, and I, for one, would not want to be relaxing outside as a spectacle for commuters. The pool is also somewhat small. It wouldn't be so good for more than one or two families at a time.

Other than those things, it's a great price and a good location outside of downtown. It truly is just minutes away from the Biltmore House and Biltmore Village. The Fun Depot is right behind it. It really is a fun, family-friendly place with very reasonable prices for activities. Only $4/adult for a game of mini-golf. And $10 of game credits will get you a ton of games to play. There's also a quick place to eat hot dogs, burgers, and such there.

We stayed here last weekend after deciding to take a weekend trip without the kids. It was clean and the room was nice. We were at the very end of the hall and the room was really secluded except we could hear every step our upstairs neighbors made. The hotel is right off of I-40 which is a good location but it isn't an isolated lodge. If you are looking for that type of place, stay somewhere else. I would stay here again but I would ask for the top floor. Would have loved to sleep in but the loud walking upstairs at 6:00 AM on Sunday made it kind of hard. I think the hotel was full and there was a wedding party staying there from out of state so maybe it isn't always that loud."

Thank you so much for your review of the Lodge! We do our best to minimize the noise and we have a strict noise policy for larger groups that must be signed at checkin by group leaders. We are always happy to accomodate special requests like a top floor room or away from elevators and vending as requested. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us to improve our guest experience!

Clean, attractive room, good service, friendly staff, convenient to the interstate, next door to Fun Depot for kids. Good breakfast. Pool, hot tub, and exercise room were clean and convenient. No pretty scenery from the windows, but there was plenty of that throughout Asheville. The rooms were quiet and peaceful, even close to the elevator. The queen-sized beds were so comfortable. The place was packed out, and parking could become a problem late at night. It is obviously a very popular place. Close to Biltmore Castle and Biltmore Village.

We booked our trip early and received excellent rates via Hotel.com for our 3 night stay. We had the single queen room that many disliked but it worked fine for us. However the "lodge" title is misleading as this is or was a rather plain 4 story motel close to a major highway (rt 25) that the present management has upgraded about as far as they can go. Our room was nicely decorated with top line bath and accessories and excellent mattress. The staff is friendly and the free breakfast excellent with plenty of extra seating in the Conference room. We are seniors and well-traveled. We look for the best 3 star accommodations values but love to dine with the classes when we can.

Brookstone is located a few blocks from the Biltmore Village and near the main entrance to the Biltmore which is a plus. There is so much to do in Asheville we didn't mind the less luxurious accommodations. The Biltmore is nearly and all day deal if you have the excellent buffet at Dear Park and visit the other attractions. We both enjoyed the Trolley Tours and enjoyed a "first class" luncheon at The Grove Park Inn (A MUST SEE!)

Other restaurants we enjoyed were The Laughing Seed and Corner Kitchen for diner, and the Early Girl for breakfast. The Mediterian (sp) is good and very economical and across from the biggest shoe store you'll ever need to visit.

Brookstone is an attractive hotel with several nice amenities. However, the hotel was at capacity during our stay so the noise level was high. We could hear people walking and talking above our room and the draining water from other rooms was very noticeable. There was no ice machine on our floor, either. The hallways needed painting. For a new hotel, there was a good bit of wear and tear. The lobby and dining area was very cramped and hard to move around when checking in and at breakfast. Way too small for this size hotel. We also had a difficult time finding a parking place when we checked in and returned late on our second night!

On the positive side the rooms were clean, attractive and well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall, a pleasant experience but overpriced. With taxes, our stay was $250 for two nights.

Thank you very much for writing a review of Brookstone Lodge. We are glad that you stayed with us, and we are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. For a more intimate dining experience next time around, please consider eating breakfast in the conference room or outside patio. We also have a full time maintenance man, who is constantly looking out for wear and tear. Lastly, you will find that our rates are very competitive with area hotels in our class, and this time of year happens to be a part of peak season in Asheville. We hope that you will consider staying with us again, and thanks again for writing a review.
