“Who would suspect a gem hides inside?”
Reviewed September 5, 2013 via mobile

As an outsider to asheville I never would have gone inside without encouragement from a local, but I'm glad I did. This has a very creative approach to taste coupling and the atmosphere inside is fun and relaxed. The entire staff seems truly excited to be involved with the restaurant. I will return next trip to Asheville!

“Dark but delicious”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We finally made it to The Admiral with some friends from out of town who talked about its mention in Food and Wine. We made the reservation with some trepidation -- we had done a drive-by and the place really does look like a dive. And when we did get inside, it was so dark, it made you wonder if that was intentional -- to hide things. But our experience was great. We were seated promptly, service was timely, and the food very good. We each had a couple of small plates, and two of those do make a meal. The wine by the glass selection is very good and our friends enjoyed the availability of a full bar for some cocktails. Timing of food service was great....not too slow, not too fast. Our waitress was very pleasant. And we had a very enjoyable meal.

“A heavenly dive”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Over the past couple of years we have dined in this restaurant 4 or 5 times and have always been impressed with their food. The Chef, Ivan Candido, is truly a "Geek Chef" able to produce a multitude of exquisite dishes, all of which are out of the box creations. The place is nothing but a dive which gives this incredible restaurant its charm; the service is outstanding; and the food is out of this world. During our dinner today we enjoyed several small plates paired with a nice bottle of Barolo. Our server, Leila Amiri, was wonderful and timed our 5 small plates perfectly. Our highlights were their Black Fin Tuna Crudo with pickled shiso, purple tomatillo, chevre and crispy lime beans; and their Steam Buns with pork belly, kewpie mayonnaise, pickled carrots, cucumbers, and katsuobushi chips. This place is heaven if you love food. The flavors are amazing and the price is right.

“You might pass it up without it having been highly recommended.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

Funky, nonchalant decor, a cinder block building located in an industrial setting might turn casual restaurant searchers away--if they checked out the place at all. Wonderful food, nice wine list, and pleasant service makes this restaurant into the proverbial silk purse. Try it and enjoy! We shared several appetizers, and each was delicious.

“still outstanding”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The Admiral is still quintessential Heywood--low-keyed but high quality.
We have eaten there at least half a dozen times with excellent food and drinks each time.
Check out the imaginative cocktails.
