Pretty place - very stylish. Fancy, different hors d'ouevres each afternoon, with sumptuous, creative breakfasts each morning. Extra servings of whatever, as well as wines, were available after hours in the community fridge in the parlor area. Located in a wonderful neighborhood with a great Bohemian restaurant nearby. We were in the sunshine room, and it was very nice. Watch the parking, a bit cramped, but expected. No other complaints here!

My husband and I fell in love with this B&B from the moment we entered. We were greeted by kind staff and our room was clean and charming. We arrived during happy hour and were wowed by the selection of homemade goodies - I especially loved the chocolate flourless torte! We enjoyed chatting with the other patrons as well as the innkeepers. This place, though elegantly decorated, has a warm sense of home. Breakfast is AMAZING and the tables are beautifully set with silver and china as the morning sun peaks in through the bay windows. I wish I could wake up there every morning! We regretted to leave, and will definitely be telling our friends and family about this gem in Asheville. We will stay at the Black Walnut on our next visit, for sure.

From the time we pulled into the parking lot until we left early early Monday morning, we were treated like royalty. The room was heavenly and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Lori and Peter went so far beyond it was just the best birthday get away ever! It was like old "home week" when we met Peter and found out that we went to Palm Beach High together. It just got better and better. Do not bring your diet to Black Walnut because you MUST eat breakfast every day and I do mean different and delicious everyday and you must to hor douevres also everyday!!!! Because we had an early flight home Peter made us "hot turnover" right out of oven to take with us on way to airport. Dinner suggestions and reservations were provided every morning by Lori and Wow were they good. I am so sorry I can't remember the names of the girls. But "sometimers " has set in. Thank you Lori,Peter and girls for a beautiful get away.

Just completed a fantastic 2 night stay in the Camellia room of the Black Walnut with our miniature schnauzer, Katie. The room was gorgeous. Two beautiful crystal chandeliers on a dimmer switch provided delightful mood lighting. We especially enjoyed the king bed, kitchenette, and gas fireplace. The claw footed tub could be fully enclosed by curtains and we appreciated the ample table and towel stand in the bathroom ... plenty of space for our unguents and hair products! Having the fridge stocked with soft drinks and bottled water, tea bags, specially roasted coffee, popcorn, etc. was a nice treat. Home made candy truffles delivered with the evening turn-down service were decadent and delicious. But, the wine and snacks in the afternoon and the breakfast really show what accomplished chefs Innkeepers Lori and Peter are. They were also very gracious and helpful -- suggesting activities and place for lunch and dinner. (Breakfast was so substantial and delicious that we really didn't need lunch!)

The Camellia room is in the carriage house and its decor is beautiful. But, he sitting room and dining room of the main house are particularly grand. There is amazing collection of silver and porcelain tea sets in the breakfast area.

We encountered three young women who assisted the inneepers and they were all very nice and helpful as well.

Belle, the resident samoyed is a friendly and beautiful canine.

We look forward to another visit to the Black Walnut soon!

We were greeted by Rachel who was very kind and gave us a little tour of the Inn, and our room was extremely clean and well kept. The food was very good and you could tell the owners took a lot of pride is treating their guests the way they would like to be treated. One drawback was that it wasn't very quiet, so we heard some lively conversations between the owner and the staff, which was entertaining but didn't create a relaxing environment.

As a Christmas gift, my daughter and son in law treated my husband and I to weekend at the Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast. We understood that our dogs were welcome in the designated area of the inn. However, during our stay, the owners, Peter and Lori, permitted a couple without a dog to stay in the dog area of the inn in order to fill all rooms. There are three units in the DDA (Designated Dog Area). We were in one with our five little boys, Peter and Lori with their dogs live in another, and the dog less couple in the third. Our dogs were all in their crates. While we were enjoying breakfast (served from 8:30 to 9:30am), some of the dogs, including the owners, began barking. The dog less couple complained because they were trying to sleep. Why you would come to a bed and breakfast and not show up for breakfast, puzzles me? In any case, we were told that we were not permitted to leave our dogs unattended again. One possible solution offered was to keep them in the car. The temperature that day was in the 30's, and they are all little dogs, the largest one being only 18 lbs. This was not an acceptable solution. After a tearful altercation between my daughter and Peter, we decided to cancel our dinner reservations, spend the evening in our room and depart early the following morning. Peter did mention that he would speak with the dog less couple on our behalf. Whether or not that conversation actually took place, I do not care. It is my experience that Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast kowtowed to a couple that should NOT have been assigned a room in a unit where dogs are permitted if they were seeking rest and solitude.

While we are sorry this guest was disappointed with their stay,we were unpleasantly surprised by the number of dogs in one room. They decided to bring their childrens dogs as well. had we been notified prior to booking of this number of pets we would have declined the reservation. We offer per friendly, but do not provide rooms exclusively for travelers with pets. Our policy allows for well behaved dogs , and that the owners be responsible for their pets behaviour while on the property.During the first day of their stay, which included an early check in; we became aware of an excessive amount of continous barking as the guests had left the dogs unattended for hours, well into the evening. The dogs barked the entire time they were out. It is unacceptable that our other guests staying anywhere on the property should be impacted by these guests negligent behaviour. It is in fact, part of my job as an innkeeper to make sure all our guests have appropriate quiet while at the inn. In the morning we simply requested they bring the dogs with them during the day as the barking was disruptive. This was met by an outrageous assertion that the other guests should tolerate this behaviour, since we offer pet friendly accomodations. It is in fact completely unacceptable for these guests to use my home as a kennel. In 9 years of innkeeping and being pet friendly I have never felt the need to restrict our pet policy as other guests would not ever leave their pet crated for that length of time, nor would they be insulted by a gentle suggestion that would make everyone happy. I cannot think why they would bother to bring the dogs as they certainly did not spend any time with them while they were here.

From the enthusiasm of it's owners (Lori and Pete), to the antique furnishings, to the live Christmas decorations, to the comfort of it's rooms, the Black Walnut is a genuine Asheville experience. Stayed for 2 nights and would certainly go back. Be preared for a full multi course breakfast fit for the Vanderbuilts and an afternoon social hour that will make you think that it is reason enough to visit Asheville ...

Room Tip: Most if not all bedrooms have a working fireplace. It's worth checking to be certain for the ad...
