Recommended for dog-owners. We travel with our dog and don't leave home without him. This limits where we stay, so when I find a nice place that takes pets, I tell others - to promote hotels accepting pets.
Negatives: 1) The reservation process was very nerve-racking. They are now owned by Marriott (I do like the chain), but the Marriott reservations center has no clue about this property. They goofed up my reservation a couple of times before we arrived, so by the time we got there I was completely nervous, 2) the hotel has an annex property/building - weird! It is across the street and has no ammenities, so the guests of that building have to cross over a very busy street for everything - if you care, make sure you *guarantee* and not just *request* the main building; they almost stuck us there, 3) the property is on an island and on 3 sides of the island is very busy traffic, Asheville is heavily travelled, a lot of traffic
Positives: 1) we stayed in the main building and that is better than the annex building (just the ammenities and location, not speaking of the the rooms), 2) after our annoying reservation issues were ironed out, the service was great, 3) the restaurant was very good (blueberry pancakes were awesome...request the chef put the blueberries *in* the pancakes and not just on top, 4) the rooms are lovely, no complaints whatsoever, 5) they are super pet-friendly, 6) the sound barriers drown out the street noise very well and we couldn't hear a thing, 7) Asheville has very good food in general, great chefs everywhere
Neutral fact: the hotel's decor is chic/hunting...as in, "game everywhere" and if you are a die-hard-vegan-type you might be offended. I wouldn't want someone to arrive for their vacation and be horrified, if that would deeply upset someone...a hunter would be in heaven. Just a fact, not an opinion
I do recommend this hotel.

Stayed here last year and only getting round to a review now. The hotel service was excellent, in particular the restaurant, and the rooms were superb. The best hotel we stayed in during our trip around the Carolinas

Travelling with dogs is a big enough pain without fellow travellers complaining about the noise. We booked a room in the carriage house (across the street from the main hotel - $20 cheaper, same ambiance ) and were required to sign a document stating that we would provide restitution for other guests should they be inconvenienced by our animals. I inquired as to what that restitution could amount to - our dogs are rather talkative when left alone. The front desk lady said that they never had had a problem and that if it did become am issue - they would allow the dogs to stay in their offices. Needless to say - 5 minutes after leaving our room it was a problem. The ladies happily watched our dogs while we went to dinner and even took them out to use the restroom. Fantastic and over the top. More than we expected for sure. Upon returning from dinner we discovered we didn't have a bottle opener and one was promptly brought to us. The service was excellent, the staff exceptional and the place was beautiful.

Awesome boutique hotel with terrific bar and restaurant. Amazing upscale woodsy, hunting lodge feel but not overdone. Good location with good shopping area right across the street and right across from the Vanderbilt mansion. Just a couple of miles from downtown Asheville. The rooms are modern and very chic. Very, very cool hotel. We've vowed to check out every Kessler hotel now!

We came for the Biltmore tour. This hotel is like a mini introduction to the tour. Built in the last two years as a French hunting lodge complete with animal skins, heads on the walls stag horn chandaliers (sp) old wood and atmosphere. I liked it, very much.
The neg part was staying in the Annex or Manor across the street. Glaciel slow signal. Lots of traffic with your rolling bags plus steps down to the street and up the other side.
The fifteen a night parking turned into twenty with with the tip. So add that in. And the price per night is up there. I think the last train was at nine pm, horn at crossing sounded, and the next was at six or six thirty. Actually a pet peeve of mine. But the next night we came in late, so I only heard the morning horn. Our room in the manor was very very nice. All the best and more. All in all, it was worth the effort. Our room was unusual and really really nice.

My wife and I just returned from a 2 night stay in asheville at the grand bohemian. We were returning from kure beach in wilmington and thought that asheville would be a great sidetrip only a couple of hours out of the way.
First of all, the location is great with it literally being across the street from the entrance to the biltmore estate, which I highly recommend. Its a few minutes drive to downtown asheville which offers some great restaurants, bars, and cool public spaces. Its also in close walking distance to the shops and restaurants in biltmore village. There was a cool arts and crafts fair that was going on which was great to browse through but also contributed to the area being heavily congested with traffic. Because of this we decided to valet and it was money well spent. Its 15 a day but that includes unlimited movement. The valet and hotel staff were very friendly asking if we needed any assistance with direction or if they could assist us with making reservations at any area restauraunts.
The decor as previously noted is modeled after a hunting lodge but with a modern spin. For example the hallway light fixtures were a light blue(almost neon)with black branches. The hotel also has a large amount of art in their gallery, throughout the hotel, and also in the rooms. Very interesting to check out.
The room itself was very comfortable with plush furniture and a wonderful king bed. We stayed at the main hotel and fortunately experienced no traffic or train noise. Definately one of the best sleeps I've had in a while.
The bathroom was a little different in that you had large wooden swinging doors to the bathroom itself and also as a partition from the tub to the bedroom. The shower and the toilet space had large lead glass doors which does not lend itself to privacy. Not a big deal to me but it may be for some. These doors may not have been as functional but definately blended in with the rooms decor.
The flat screen tv also doubled as the internet, and it gave you icons to click on for area attractions, reservations and so on. Great concept and free internet!!
Room prices I felt were reasonable for the hotel itself and actually in the room the items with the exception of bath salts seemed to be reasonable as well. Ex. 25 for a bottle of wine which we saw at restaurant for 28.
As a whole I would highly recommend The Grand Bohemian to anyone visiting asheville.

I recently got married in Asheville and we picked this hotel to stay in on our wedding night before we left on Saturday for our honeymoon. It's a very beautiful hotel with upscale decor - very appropriate for a special event like a wedding night. The valet parking was also nice when you're in a tuxedo and wedding dress and don't feel like wasting time trying to find somewhere to park. And they offered complimentary valet parking for wedding couples, so that was nice. I wish we would have had more time to enjoy the hotel or try the restaurant but we checked out pretty early on Saturday.

I don't think I would stay here if I was just on a normal vacation or anything but maybe if we decide to celebrate an anniversary in Asheville, I'd consider this hotel again. It's pretty pricey for hotels in the area, even considering its awesome location.
