“We're coming back...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is not an edgy spot like 12 bones, more of a traditional BBQ joint. We shared a 1/2 side of dry rubbed ribs, a cobb salad with smoked turkey and brisket... only a half salad and it was hard to finish all the food. My husband said eh felt the ribs were better than his own and he is famous among our friends and family for his ribs.

“The Staff was the best thing about our dinner.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

The hostess was smiling and friendly and did way more throughout our visit than just seat people. Amy was our waitress, bubbly and sweet. She helped us with our questions and selections. The food was just ok. None of the Bar-B-Que sauces were outstanding, just very ordinary. I hate the tiny sides served in paper containers, even though it is a Bar-B-Que place. We were seated in the family with kids section but I was pleasantly surprised how good and quiet they all were! Hard working staff, food just so-so. Doubt we will go back. We had heard such good things about this restaurant and drove 45 mins each way. Maybe an off night.

“Good BBQ for a hard-to-please Texas transplant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Since moving to the Asheville area from Texas we've had a hard time finding what we think is real BBQ - that is beef brisket. Although not truly Texas mesquite BBQ, Luella's comes pretty close to filling that niche for us when we need to get our "brisket fix." They've also got a very nice eclectic menu with lots of other choices beyond just BBQ! Wish it wasn't quite so busy and noisy, but good restaurants attract crowds, so we should expect some waiting in lines and some noisy kids!

“This is great BBQ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

I love BBQ and will go out of my way to find a great spot. This place was amazing. Let's start with the place... it looks like an old gas station/drive in that's been transformed into a hip café. Very comfy. There was live music when were there that was a great addition (folk music) and not too loud to enjoy dinner. The menu had some unexpected surprises like deviled eggs and smoked wings. Both were sensational. The BBQ pork was tender and obviously fresh from the smoker and we had several options for sauces that were very tasty. All in all, a great stop.
