Affordable and well presented dishes served by attentive wait staff who happily accommodated our wish for separate checks. Option to substitute vegetable base (squash, I think) for pasta in most dishes allows for a lower calorie choice if desired. We were seated promptly and not rushed although the noise level precluded easy conversation within our larger group.

Yes, it is busy, yes it is noisy, and yes there is a wait--and yes, it is worth it. The host at our B and B suggested Nine Mile and told us we could wait an hour, easy, on a Saturday night between 7 and 9. Mercifully, about 10 minutes after we arrived at 7:30, a large group at the bar was taken to their table, which freed up bar seats. Then, we were able to order dinner at the bar, eliminating the wait for a table. Our server, Molly M, made us feel like we were regulars she knew well, and she helped us decide what to order, making sure we knew the seasoning and heat level before we picked. I had the Pressure Drop (jerk chicken) and hubby had the Island in the Sea, seafood in white wine over fettucini. The portions were generous and with salad and bread, it was a good value, too. It's different, and we'll be going back because it is.

Our Asheville friend, knowing one of us is Jamaican, took us to Nine Mile, a neighborhood place in the Montford neighborhood about 10 mins from downtown. With no reservation on a Saturday night, we expected a wait and had one -- about 40 minutes standing at the crowded bar. A young crowd, a bustling place with sidewalk seating. Food was ok. Their ingredients are from the Caribbean and elsewhere. Eclectic menu features complicated entree names, fish, chicken, tofu, with many choices for gluten intolerant or vegan diners. I had the Nine MIle, a jerk chicken and vegetables dish served over pasta or basmati rice. When asked if i wanted mild, medium or hot, i chose medium and it's a good thing. It was about at my max level of hotness and i love spicy food. The Jamaican in our party ranked it ok, no where near her own cooking. Great beer selection of local and regional brews on tap or bottle.

This restaurant was just down the street from our B& B and the owners had recommended it, so we walked down and put in our names. it was going to be a 45 minute wait on a Sunday night so we took a little walk around Montford Avenue and came back later. It's a funky little place with a young crowd, and the menu looked good and prices seemed reasonable. Once we were seated, it took a while to get waited on, and then even longer to get our food. However, once we were served, the food was delicious. So guess it was worth the wait.

The aromas hit you and you just know the food is going to be Delicious! It did not disappoint. The restaurant is located in a nice little neighborhood which created a very nice atmosphere to sample really good food. Be prepared to wait for a table or sit at the bar. The food is worth waiting for, very interesting, delicious flavors. Good service and friendly staff. I'll be back on my next trip!
