Owner description: Thomas Wolfe's childhood home, immortalized in his 1929 novel, "Look Homeward Angel," is preserved intact as a lasting monument to one of the 20th century's most prominent writers. The house, originally operated as a boardinghouse by his mother, retains most of its original furnishings and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Tours of the 29 room house are offered hourly. The adjacent visitor center and museum highlight Wolfe's life and major literary accomplishments.

I loved reading Thomas Wolfe so visiting the boarding house that his mother owned and that he wrote about is something I've wanted to do for years. The house suffered a fire (arson) so the dining room and kitchen were rebuilt, but 90 percent of the home is original, including all the furnishings. The guided tour was quite informative.

Even if you're not a Thomas Wolfe fan.....stop by and take the tour to learn more about life in Asheville during this time period. Very informative and pleasant tour guides and the house is beautifully maintained (with many of the original furnishings).

So impressed with everything about this tour. We were first amazed that you could do anything in Asheville for only $5 per person. Then, the tour was so informative and incredibly in depth. Our guide was so friendly and made everyone feel very at ease to ask questions or make comments as well.

Very cool, for $5.00 you can tour This original boarding house made famous because of the owners son, Thomas. You start the tour with a quick video detailing Thomas's life. A volunteer takes you on a walking tour of the boarding home. You are taken back in time in a home holding items 100 years old. Our tour guide did a great job telling the "inside story" really interesting. Go and learn.

Go! This is the actual house, with the original furniture, that Thomas Wolfe wrote about in "Look Homeward Angel". That is, it's really his mother's boarding house. It was very moving to be in the original place. There's a cheap ($5.00) guided tour that is definitely worthwhile, with enough but not too much information. There is also a small museum of Wolfe-related items that I enjoyed examining (and I don't usually like museums very much). If you're in Asheville or anywhere nearby, don't miss this.
