“Never Disappointing”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

We took our boys ages 12 and 9 to the Biltmore Estate the first week of January. We wanted them to see the house while it was still decorated for Christmas. We were a little worried that our 9 year-old would be bored so we purchase the children's audio tour for him. It was only ten dollars and was well worth it. It was narrated by Cedric the family dog which made it fun. After every room, he would tell us little interesting facts. My oldest was just fascinated by the architecture.
The house and grounds were just as beautiful as the last time we visited in 2002. We enjoyed the Christmas trees and decorations. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Being AAA members, we purchased our tickets through them, but we made the reservations for the house tour through the Biltmore phone service.
My husband took advantage of the wine tasting afterward. The bartender was great. He gave our boys a grape juice tasting so they felt included. The whole trip was a wonderful experience for them. If parents have any doubts about taking their children on to the Biltmore, I would say take them!

“Great get away!”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

We had a great time! Truly a must see and Asheville is a very cool place to kick back and relax. The Estate is so impressive. Takes about 1.5hrs to casually walk through (we did not do the guided audio tour). Loved just driving around after the tour and seeing how massive the property is and enjoyed checking out the perfectly groomed grounds. Winery was busy but well managed!

“Magnificent Home and Estate!”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

The Biltmore House is an unbelievable house that was once the home to the George Vanderbilt Family. A technological masterpiece for it's time! The house is full of Vanderbilt furnishings, art work, possessions, family portraits and history. We visited during the first weekend of The Christmas Season, to see this grand mansion decorated for Christmas. Stunning!!! We went on all four tours offered at that time of year. Very informative and interesting. There are many, many steps in this house and involved in the tours. My husband and I do not handle steps as well as we used to, but made it through all of the tours which went to all the floors from the very top to the bottom basement (there are two basements). There are chairs here and there for people who would like to take a rest. The self directed tour which has recorded messages about each room, is at your own pace. Take as much or as little time as you would like. The guided tours have a time limit and a guide. Moves much quicker, but if you can handle the steps, I would recommend a visit to this house. It was very, very busy and crowded with people the days we were there, but it was the first days of the Christmas Season and we were told that is a busy time. Some of the stable area has been turned in to shops, I enjoyed these shops very much. They were so crowded during our visit, it was difficult to move around, but I did my best to be patient and purchased many things. My biggest complaint is there are NO pictures allowed to be taken inside the house. Pictures are allowed to be taken of the outside of the house. Besides the house there are many other areas of the Estate to visit. The weather was quite cool when we were there so we did not tour much of the outdoor property, which was dormant anyway.
This is an amazing place and we will return to see it during a different season!

“had a great tour!”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

went here with my family and the six of us found it raining the morning of our tour. We had prepaid for tickets which were picked up at will call and then we easily parked. We didn't wait at all for a van to pick us up to take us to the front of the home. The rain didn't affect our tour at all. The tour was amazing and we rented the audio tour for $10 which added a lot to the experience vs having to read the info out of a booklet. Parts of the house were dimly lit which would have made it difficult to read the brochure. Tour is self guided and staff are present to answer questions. Took us about two hours to complete the tour. Highly recommend this!

“NICE CHRISTMAS DECOR”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

We recently visited Biltmore Estate during the Christmas season. While all of the decorations inside the house were beautiful, I was a little disappointed. Most of the trees and greenery were artificial. Most of the decorations throughout the house were trees, wreaths, and garland. Not sure what I expected but it was not as elaborate as I had anticipated. Would probably not go again. Sort of like...been there-done that!
