“Art off the beaten trail”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

There were many art galleries to visit off the beaten trail. Count on walking a lot as the studios were not too close to each other. If you go during the week stop for lunch at 12 Bones. They are only open Mon - Fri until 4:00.

“This is a must in Asheville”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

The River Arts district was the best part of our trip to Asheville. If you appreciate art and and the passion of local craftsmen then you will love this maze of restored/ re-ocupied warehouse buildings. Yes they are spread out, thats what makes this so fun. You relax and wonder building to building enjoying what the artist have on display. Some are working studios and others are display galleries only. I was so relaxed and enjoyed two days through out the district. We had lunch at 12 Bones, enjoyed dinner at the newly opened Bull and Beggar, took a class with glass blowers and I even found a great Hair saloon in the wedge building. Please do not skip this area of Asheville, it is unique and it feels so good to spend your money within the local community.

“Some really good some not so”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

A fun place to stroll on a mild afternoon. There are some fine artists and some not so. It is definately worth the visit. If you go try the White Duck Taco Shop. Its reason enough to go to the district.

“Not what I hoped”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

I knew that the buildings would be spread out, but it was confusing to find one's way around. There should be better signage on the outside to indicate which artists are at each location. I realize that we were there on July 3, but there were barely any artists in their studios. The best find was the great antique store in the Riverview Station building.

“Don't miss the River District when visiting Asheville!”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

The River Art District is uniquely Asheville! Once the warehouse district and prone to flooding by the river that runs through it, the buildings stood abandoned for a long time, until the city offered them to artists for their living quarters and art studios. Now there are 150+ studios, shops, restaurants, and a colorful display of art graffiti. Look at pottery, art, wood working, and much more, then eat in one of Asheville's most interesting restaurants--either 12 Bones, which won the Good Morning America BBQ rib cook off, or White Duck Taco Shop, which serves gourmet tacos (duck mole and lump crab meat tacos, for example). The other restaurants in the River District are good, too, so you may have a hard time choosing! If you do not visit the River District, you have not really seen Asheville! Twice a year there is a studio stroll, with all of the art studios open and a free trolley to get around--we never miss that! There is also a microbrew pub at The Wedge building.
