We had a two queen bed suite at the Haywood Park for a recent “girlfriends” trip to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. Our other friends had one across the hall. These are very large rooms with lots of space, a full sofa and chair, a large TV, and a closet with a mini-frig and (yes!!) a Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom has a large tub and separate walk-in shower, a large vanity, and a TV. Outside there is a separate vanity and sink. The bathroom has a make-up mirror and a full range of Gilchrist & Soames bath products. This is a perfect room for two friends sharing, and would be great for a family with children because there is so much space.

The front lobby is spacious and the desk staff very nice. Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we shopped for a while and returned. When you check in you receive a glass of champagne (or bottle of water). When you check out you receive a “to go” bag with a thank you note and some snacks. We also got complimentary light breakfasts, including Starbucks coffee, at the Haywood café in the courtyard, and delicious chocolates each night at turn down. On our floor (the 4th) there was a nice seating area in the middle where we could meet and/or sit and talk. We also liked the historic feel of this hotel, which was once a department store.

The location of the hotel is great. Lots of little shops and restaurants right around it. An easy drive to the Biltmore Estate and other places of interest. Free parking.

The staff seems to go out of their way to be helpful. This was especially true the morning we left. All packed and ready to go, we discovered that our car’s battery was dead. An employee happened to be in the parking garage and she immediately said she would get us some help. A young man came out and called the hotel’s maintenance truck. Within ten minutes two very nice men arrived and got our car’s motor going. ….We all had AAA, but figured it would have taken up to an hour for them to arrive, so this was so much nicer. We certainly appreciated this help.

On any future trips to Asheville we will be staying at the Haywood Park.

An upscale hotel in the center of Ashevilles action--stores andmany excellent restaurants are all in walking distance.. No need for a car once you arrive. Old retail department store converted to hotel so decor is accordingly. Rooms very comfortable and staff superior in service. Rooms windows/walls not well insulated from street noise--ie Friday night drummers in central park, street vendor musician. But all ends by 10-11pm and adds to the festive feeling Asheville offers. Room in front of hotel better has a street window view where rooms in back of hotel, although away from street noise, have only view of alley. Train runs thru area in back of hotel on Sunday nights around 1-2 am. Can wake you up out of a deep sleep, regardless of whether your room is in front or back, but quickly goes thru. Probably heard as well by all hotels in area. Chocolate on pillow along with turn down service while you are out of room every evening is a nice touch.

Room Tip: Get a room towards front of hotel with a window view. Street noise adds to the festive feeling of Ashville.

Very nice Hotel in The Best Downtown location. Shops ,Ice cream, fudge ,street performers,Restaurants beside , just across the street, around the corner ,seems everywhere. Very friendly staff. Easy free self parking. They offer refreshements when you arrive and give you water and snacks when you leave . Nightly turn down service with chocolates. They reallllly try hard to please. The breakfast is free with fruit ,bagels breakfast sandwichs ,sausage gravy ,yogurt and yes Starbuck Coffee served in a small Cafe. I think the older looking yet nice furniture and surroundings are very much in the theme of the old Department Store that it was.We brought our dog and the staff went out of there way to greet our pet ,offer snacks etc. Upon arrival in our room she had her own stainless bowls and a snack with her name on it.There is a dog bakery next door. The small park across the street and around the corner is about 50 yards away and even has doggie bags for disposal. There are few people out in the early mornings ,but felt safe .Most shops will let you bring your dog in. If you want the full Asheville experince stay here.Heck you can even watch a movie or the news soaking in your oversized tub.

The location is perfect. The rooms are quite large. The service is very friendly. The front desk people were always helpful. The valet parking is convenient (though the car retrieval was sometimes a bit slow). The rooms are somewhat outdated. It is a historic place and I would not want to see the sort of updating that would detract from the hotel's historic character, but it could use some capital investment, including updated furniture and better carpet The cable TV service broke and I gather it was not the first time this has happened. To compensate, they gave us a gift certificate for the restaurant, but the terms were very restrictive (that night only, does not include drinks, etc.). Seems to me they should do whatever is necessary to get the TV working reliably, and if you are going to give guests a gift certificate to compensate for inconvenience, it should not be so restrictive. The hotel gives free breakfast at its cafe, but the breakfast was not very good. I would recommend skipping it and eating at one of AVL's great breakfast restaurants. The nightly chocolates were fun. The room has a mini fridge and coffee which were convenient. This hotel is not perfect, but the great location, excellent front desk staff, and big rooms would be enough for me to stay there again. If you do choose this hotel, look around as there may be better rates on some other websites than on the hotel's own website.

If you want to be in the center of Asheville, this is the place! It is within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and many attractions. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean and the rooms are spacious.

Upon arrival you are to receive champagne or water; I was not offered this until my other guest arrived. Although, I was early and promptly taken care of through the free valet and guest services.

The hotel is a bit outdated, overpriced and it seemed like this historic place was trying to become a first rate hotel, such as in the television in the bathroom and turn down service. Room service was available and the food was good along with fast service!

However, it just seemed to just fall short but I would stay here again if I wanted to be in the downtown area.
