“good hotel in excellent location”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

The location is perfect. The rooms are quite large. The service is very friendly. The front desk people were always helpful. The valet parking is convenient (though the car retrieval was sometimes a bit slow). The rooms are somewhat outdated. It is a historic place and I would not want to see the sort of updating that would detract from the hotel's historic character, but it could use some capital investment, including updated furniture and better carpet The cable TV service broke and I gather it was not the first time this has happened. To compensate, they gave us a gift certificate for the restaurant, but the terms were very restrictive (that night only, does not include drinks, etc.). Seems to me they should do whatever is necessary to get the TV working reliably, and if you are going to give guests a gift certificate to compensate for inconvenience, it should not be so restrictive. The hotel gives free breakfast at its cafe, but the breakfast was not very good. I would recommend skipping it and eating at one of AVL's great breakfast restaurants. The nightly chocolates were fun. The room has a mini fridge and coffee which were convenient. This hotel is not perfect, but the great location, excellent front desk staff, and big rooms would be enough for me to stay there again. If you do choose this hotel, look around as there may be better rates on some other websites than on the hotel's own website.

If you want to be in the center of Asheville, this is the place! It is within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and many attractions. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean and the rooms are spacious.

Upon arrival you are to receive champagne or water; I was not offered this until my other guest arrived. Although, I was early and promptly taken care of through the free valet and guest services.

The hotel is a bit outdated, overpriced and it seemed like this historic place was trying to become a first rate hotel, such as in the television in the bathroom and turn down service. Room service was available and the food was good along with fast service!

However, it just seemed to just fall short but I would stay here again if I wanted to be in the downtown area.

A friend and I stayed here for a night on a recent trip through asheville. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room, two queen bed suite, was beautiful. The beds were plush from the feather comforter to the four feather pillows on each bed. The room was huge and the bathroom was as well with separate bath and shower. The hotel is in the center of downtown and there are lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. We loved this place and would definitely stay again.

If you're visiting Asheville, this is THE hotel to stay at! Everything is first class. From the staff, to the service, to the rooms and finally the location, it just doesn't get any better!!! Located right smack in the middle of downtown Asheville, everything is a short walk away. And there was Free valet and a free breakfast to boot! It couldn't have any better. If you can afford to spend a little extra, book here! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

This was my husband and my first trip to Asheville and we just happened to read about the Haywood Park Hotel and decided to stay there. We made an excellent decision. The location is terrific, you walk out the door and are within walking distance of all the fun restaurants, shops and some of the key attractions of Asheville. The room was large and very comfortable, staff more that helpful and very friendly. It could not have been better

The Haywood Park lives up to its description as a luxury hotel, but with a twist. It was created out of a former department store, and is very spacious both in its rooms and public areas. It pays extravagant homage to its roots, with artefacts from the two stores that formerly occupied the building, well displayed but slightly disconcerting as they include full size mannequins on every floor.

The rooms are enormous - we had a spacious suite with a large sitting room, big bedroom, bathroom with a Whirlpool bath and separate shower as well as a dressing area. Staff were very helpful, Especially Ed on reception who gave us excellent advice about a difficult drive to Atlanta airport on departure. There is a very good bistro attached to the hotel - Isa's, don't miss their burgers, they are outstanding.

The very best thing is the location - everywhere in downtown Asheville is walkable from here, and you have some of the best restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Autumn is a great time to visit, there is a lot of live music on the streets, especially at the weekend, and the autumn colours are amazing.

We stayed here 13 years ago on our anniversary and returned this past weekend. It was a wonderful experience on both occasions. The rooms are very nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. But, probably the best feature for us is the central location. Unless we were traveling to the Grove Park or Biltmore, there was no need to get in our car. We could walk everywhere. My only complaint is that on this occasion, our room had no view, which is apparently the case if your room is located on the right side of the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the right side of the floors appear to all be up against the brick wall of the building nex...
