“Good meal at the Trough”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at the Trough. He had the prime rib and I had the trout. Both were good. We had their creme brulee for dessert and that was delicious!! Would recommend this to anyone who's visiting Gunnison.

“The Trough has an Identity Crisis”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

We had dinner here on a evening as we were passing through Gunnison.

The food was good (loved the family style salad with different dressings to choose from), but the whole situation is a bit surreal.

The building looks a bit run down and the inside is old and icky, but the service is excellent (they even have cocktail waitresses) and the prices are very high!

It seems like a fine dining establishment trapped in the body of and old "Sizzler Family Steakhouse".

I'm sure that it is one of the best restaurants in area, for sure.

“Great food, great fun”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

I was in Gunnison for the 4th of July balloon festival and ate at the Trough three times, twice in the evening and once at lunch. The food was excellant as was the service and atmosphere. The lunch specials are very good and price wise competative with any fast-food restaurant. The restaurant was very busy but maintained excellant service throughout my visits. The entertainment in the lounge was wonderful as provided by Terry Rickard from the Durango area. Although this is a fine-dinning restaurant it maintains a family atmosphere with toys and games in the lounge for kids. On one of the evenings there was hot dog sales on the outside deck as well as a raffle to benefit a charity for the developmentally disabled.

“Food was very good, service excellent”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

July 4th - we were concerned about finding a 'nice' place to dine. We landed at the Trough and ended up having a great meal. Enjoyed the Prime rib - huge and cooked well and the trout almondine- bit dry. Salad, served family style with he meal was awesome; served with several homemade dressing which were also great. Sides were also good: rice, zucchini cooked correctly.
Service was wonderful and attentive.
Great bar and beer too
Also good for families - have a children;s menu

“Classy Yet Mountain Casual”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

We always head for the Trough on a Saturday night every time we go to Gunnison (which has been at least six times this past year). Although you may think it is for those folks with fat wallets, for the quality, entrees are reasonably priced. The Trough, though classy, still has a family-friendly rustic mountain casual atmosphere where I am confident enough to take my 2-year old grandson (who loves looking in the fish tank in the entryway); or family guests. It is refined, yet relaxed and the service is first class. The last time we were there, our server Molly was cordial, attentive, and we felt welcomed and unrushed. Our favorite on the menu is the steak, ribs, and the artichoke souffle. We've also ordered lobster and scallops which, though probably frozen, are large and delicious. The house-made salad dressing is also made to perfection. They have a full bar and a complete wine selection. It may be a bit hard to find since it is not in the downtown Gunnison area, rather, it is located on the edge of town on the left of Hwy 50 as you travel toward Montrose. This is a place your appetite and budget will appreciate.
