Rockey River Resort
Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

This is the second time I stayed at Rockey 's and have to say that it's a great little place. The cabins are older, but very clean and everything was in working order. The small kitchen is well stocked and had everything we needed. Even better, our cabin was right across from the Gunnison river, and the whole complexes in a beautiful spot. Other nice additions are the towny bikes for people to use. I took the burly addition and cruised around with the baby, it was great. So, for a simple, great value in a beautiful location, I highly recommend staying at Rockeys.

We stayed at this resort for 3 nights in September for our anniversary in one of the rustic cabins. Found out from the gracious and accomdating hosts that The cabins were moved from Blue Mesa in the 1960's before the Gunnison River was dammed to create The Blue Mesa Reservoir. The cabins date back to the 1800's and are beautifully historic and rustic. The are chinked log and are well equipped. Ours had very comfortable beds(2 doubles) and linens, heater, and kitchette (circa 1960's) to cook... especially if you are catching trout out of the Gunnison River (which is steps from the cabin..and can lull you to sleep at night). The patio also has table and chairs to enjoy the fresh mountain air. And the bathhouse is across a little drive about 10 yards from the cabins(there are cabins with baths but we chose one without). There are bicycles for guest use and the resort rests between Gunnison and Crested Butte giving you great access to all the wonderful outdoor adventure that this beautiful area offers. If you enjoy being away from it all and enjoying the Colorado of yesteryear, this is the place for you! We loved our stay there.

We stayed at the Rockey River in September and enjoyed the tranquility of the place surrounded by the fall colors and Gunnison River flow. The management is extremely competent with a sincerity not always found in lodges of this type. Grounds beautiful. Only 4 miles to town. Features rustic and modern cabins and the price was right. We'll come back next summer along with a few friends and recommend the place to everyone

We loved our spur of the moment get-away to the Rockey River! Our cabin was clean and had everything we needed. The hosts usually require a 2-night stay, but gave us a decent rate for 1-night and accommodated my niece's request at the last minute to surpise us by giving her the cabin next door. Great location on the Gunnison River. We are considering trying to have a mini-family reunion there next year. Loved it!

This was our 2nd year staying at the Rockey River Resort. Stayed in cabin 3, which was near the river and we could hear it at night (lovely). The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The cabin was small but perfect size for 2 people and very clean.
We look forward to visiting the area next year and will for sure stay here!

Rockey River Resort is located on the Gunnison river with 15 Cabins and 24 RV sites (mostly full all summer so make reservations early). RV Sites are approximately 150ft. from a quarter mile of Trophy Fishing along the Gunnison. Sites are large (approx. 30’ x 50’) fully equipped, with fantastic water, sewer and 30 AMP Service (but don’t sweat it, you won’t need to run 2 A/Cs with highs in the low 80’s). Your gracious hosts will do almost anything to make your stay a great one, and you’ll find a diverse group of residents ready to welcome you and assimilate you into the “Trailerhood”, whether you’re staying a day, or more than a month.

Oh, if you’re a former Corporate VP with a drinking problem (belligerent drunk), and enjoy threating young ladies and 85 year old Gentlemen (like you probably did back in the glory days), Rockey River just might not be the place for you. Otherwise it’s the greatest place to spend a summer vacation or extended stay, in one of the best locations in the world.

The RV park is NOT close to the river. The RV park is small and trailers are squeezed in, side by side. You can smell sewer when you try to find a place to sit outside. Also, unless you are one of the clique that park there year round, you are not welcome but are actually profiled/scrutinized. My husband brought our Airstream up 3 weeks before I came up but was asked to leave because he "scared" people! Sure he is a big burly guy with a bald head, a beard, tattoos on his arms, and wears sleveless shirts. But the guy is also a retired VP of ConAgra and how he choosed to look now is his purogitive. After seeing the park for one night I was so glad to move. I wouldn't have stayed there another night!
